What happens when the world's biggest third-party publisher wants to do something different? Dead Space is what happens, an epic sci-fi title twisted into a disturbing survival horror title that will leave you longing for daylight to come. EA isn't messing about, either. Expect a splatter-fest, replete with severed limbs, physical abominations and enough gore to grease up a herd of elephants. Comic writers Warren Ellis and Anthony Johnson were brought on board for a story that sees Isaac Clark (named after Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clark) battling through the wreckage of the mining ship Ishimura to uncover what's happened to his shipmates and do his darndest to stay alive. Dead Space features a range of weapons that you'll really need to get to grips with if you want to survive. Winning isn't just about putting as many bullets as you can into the nasties you face: it's about tactical dismemberment - picking off the bits that the monsters need to survive. The other stand-out element of Dead Space is zero gravity combat. In certain sections you'll be thrust into an environment where there's nothing to hold you down, enabling a wealth of zero-G puzzles.
