Both games utilise a role-playing format, with Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards starring series hero Yugi and characters from the TV series embarking on a mission to gain entry to a dueling competition hosted by the Kaiba Corporation and seeking the ultra-powerful 'Egyptian God Cards' which will ensure victory. Acting as a direct sequel, Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction uses its role-playing elements to portray Yugi's battle against a powerful Dark Being which threatens to plunge the world into darkness and destruction. Players are charged with assembling an unbeatable deck of cards and the skills to use them to defeat the creature, and Yugi must defeat over 100 rival duelists in order to amass such a deck.
