Driv3r Description

The release of Driv3r, the long awaited second sequel to the excellent Driver game on PlayStation, was overshadowed by the scandal surrounding alleged bribes offered to magazines to feature the game prominently and score it favourably. The game was a commercial success, but like Driver 2, left fans of the original unsatisfied. That was all a long time ago, and with Driver 4 in the pipeline, the franchise is given an extra lease of life on the GBA - a most unlikely of venues. It is developed by two man team G. Dubail and F. Velez, the people behind the GBA versions of Stuntman and V-Rally 3. An ambitious undertaking indeed on the plucky little GBA, Driv3r follows the adventures of Tanner the 'wheelman', an undercover cop trying to crack an international crime ring. 25 missions in the Undercover single player mode see Tanner travelling from Miami to Nice, with each of the cities featuring a massive 50km of roads and highways. Missions are varied, including Pursuit, Intercept, Takedown, Getaway and Escorts, and there are 25 vehicles on offer - performance cars, trucks and bikes, and 7 different weapons. Four minigames are also featured with which to test your skill: Trailblazer, Slalom, Checkpoint and Destruction. While the console version failed to impress anyone, up against the likes of GTA, and any enthusiasm for the next instalment will necessarily be muted, there's no reason to dismiss this GBA version, which boasts an impressive amount of features for a 16 bit effort.
