DJ: Decks & FX Description

When the age of PlayStation began in 1995, the CD-based gaming console also brought with it the introduction of music creativity software. Not so much games as applications, ventures such as Music and Music 2000 showed gamers just what they could do when armed with a CD-based platform and some virtual mixing tools. In effect, it was a new genre, and the now-popular 'music-em-up' goes from strength to strength with Sony's very own Decks & FX for PS2. More of a simulation than a complex application, Decks & FX doesn't face players with nothing but detailed graphs, lists and musical statistics. Instead, it affords players the ability to control a virtual set of recording decks with fancy buttons and knobs to boot. Just about everything on the deck can be tweaked and the changes can be heard to your tracks in real time. You can add new loops, experiment with new beats on the built-in drum kit, and even make use of an automatic mixing machine for ease of use. With regards to musical content, Decks & FX thankfully comes armed with around 50 licensed and well-known club tracks, classic tracks and vocals. It's £1500 worth of gear stashed on a single disc! Decks & FX is clearly targeted towards the twenty-something casual gamer and obsessed socialite, and it does a good job of delivering a complex piece of music software that is in fact remarkably easy to get to grips with. Clubhead or not, this one's definitely worth a look.
