Aladdin was one of Disney's greatest releases of the 90s, which brought with it not only a hugely successful big screen offering, but a quirky 2D scrolling platform game too. In fact, he's been seen on several platforms over the past decade, and now, courtesy of Capcom, he's coming to Game Boy Advance. And even though it been such a long time since his last 2D adventure, Aladdin is back with a vengeance in a faithful representation of the original that retains all of the classic gameplay elements and visual style we've come to know so well. Like the film, Aladdin for GBA tells the epic, yet humorous tale of Jafar, Jasmine, the lamp and the ever-witty Genie. The adventure begins with the evil Jafar and his desire for a deeply sought after magic lamp that holds the key to the greatest power in the world. However, it turns out that only Aladdin is able to wander the Cave of... erm, Wonders, and this brings out Jafar's mastery of trickery and deceit. Can you foil the nasty Jafar's plans and makes Aladdin's wishes come true? The game itself is a pure 2D platform game, typical of the 16-bit era, whereby players get to assume control of Aladdin and his mischievous monkey sidekick Abu in a side-on scrolling adventure that has them running, jumping, swinging, and even flying on magic carpets. Most levels boast a certain amount of complexity, featuring multiple levels and a multitude of Jafar's henchmen and other resident nasties. Visually, it's very much like the original. Graphics and environments are simple and clean, and the character animation is typical of any Disney-based offering. Overall, a great platformer for a great handheld.
