My Street Description

A much more light-hearted approach to multiplayer gaming can be found in this latest release from Sony. With no fragging, no railguns, and no one-on-one snipe-a-thons on offer, My Street instead is all about having fun, kid-style, and partaking in everyone's favourite childhood pastime of playing out with your mates. The concept of My Street sees you create your own custom kid and then spend the whole virtual summer playing with your would-be buddies. The game takes the form of a virtual suburban cul-de-sac, with each respective backyard packed full of kids hanging about, playing various games, and willing to challenge you at whatever takes your fancy. The main single-player game features an adventurous plot, with players exploring the street, meeting the kids and then playing one of the mini games in order to make new friends and subsequently unlock the respective game. There are seven different games on offer, spread across a wide variety of genres, from puzzle to sport to racing. As such, while partaking in your residential reconnaissance, you can indulge in activities such as Marbles, Volleyball, RC Racing, Dodgeball, Lawnmower Racing, Chicken Herding and Chemistry. In each case, up to three young opponents are on hand to challenge you, either computer-controlled or from the real world. If you've got a network adaptor, then the multiplayer aspect gets even better, as you can go online, meet with and chat to other players via an SMS-style chat feature, and, of course, challenge them to each of the mini games. My Street is a fairly novel concept, offering a welcome alternative to the usual mass of shoot-em-ups and racing sims. And you've just got to appreciate the irony...
