Zapper Description

Borrowing more than a few elements from the recent GBA Frogger rehashes, Zapper places players in control of the cricket of the same name and casts them into a quirky insect world of tile-based, platform jumping. As the story goes, Zapper's little brother Zipper has been kidnapped by Maggie the Magpie and is being held captive in her nest - presumably being saved as a snack for later on, or something. It's therefore up to the little six-legged hero to hop and dodge his way through an assortment of challenging levels in order to get to the rescue, along the way collecting various items and preventing a plague of Magpie eggs from hatching and destroying his homeland. The gameplay in Zapper sees players hop, one tile at a time, through various colourful environments, whilst avoiding an array of hazards such as snails, rabbits and bees. Going some way to explaining his strange title, Zapper has at his disposal a useful defensive trick that allows him to zap enemies with his electrical antennae. When charged by the appropriate power-up, this ability can also destroy certain obstacles and thus enable access to further areas in the game. There are a total of 20 levels, spread across five different worlds, to traverse, each one containing a number of orbs that must be collected. To be more precise, there are 100 blue orbs and 20 yellow ones, each of the yellow ones needing to be collected in a certain order to maximise completion percentage, which can subsequently lead to the unlocking of bonus rounds. One of the game's best features is its multiplayer support. Utilising just one cartridge, up to four players can link up their GBA's and take part in a number of multiplayer games, including the likes of Zipper Soccer, Stranglehold, Deathmatch, and Last Man Standing.
