Since 2001 Codemasters has regularly updated Operation Flashpoint, an enormously popular 3D real time strategy game on the PC, developed by Bohemia Interactive. Now the title is coming exclusively to Xbox, packaged with an all-new expansion campaign subtitled Resistance. The original game is set in 1985, you control a force of separatists opposed to the policies of new President, Mr. Gorbachev. Join forces with the Americans and blaze a trail for yourself in this Cold War nightmare. In the mission based campaign you'll have control of troops, tanks, helicopters, and the squad management system allows you to issue minutely detailed orders to your troops with ease. The realism of models and physics in-game rivals anything else seen on Xbox to-date, and for extra realism there are nice touches like the inclusion of actual constellations by night, so faithfully reproduced that you can even navigate by them. The Resistance campaign follows the exploits of Victor Troska, an ex Soviet Special forces agent who has put his troubled memories behind him to live as a simple farmer on the island of Nogova. When the Russian government army invades the isle, Troska is forced to dust off his tools and lead his new neighbours in a resistance movement. There's no US intervention in this campaign, any weapons you have must be begged, borrowed or stolen. Just as in the main campaign the game structure is mission based, and you must slowly build a force big enough to stand some chance of seeing off the Soviet threat. Featuring 50 missions in total, Flashpoint brings plenty to the table. But the question fans of the PC original will be asking is, does it have online support? Indeed it does, with a comprehensive range of options and services making the most of the wonderful Xbox Live! facilities. It's high time that this strategy classic made it's way onto Xbox, and now it's here.
