Star X Description

Remember when Star Fox hit the SNES in 1992? Millions of gamers were blown away by the much-vaunted capabilities of the Super FX chip that accompanied Star Fox that Nintendo were so vigorously promoting. Back then it was state-of-the-art stuff, and a glimpse of things to come. And now, ten years on, the same technology has been squeezed into the wonder that is Game Boy Advance in a little game that goes by the name of Star X. In a nutshell, Star X is a 3D shooter for a handheld console that seems to be wholly inspired by Nintendo's 16-bit efforts. The game has been rendered in full 3D, although it lacks any kind of close up detail and fluid motion. Buy hey, it's on a tiny LCD screen, and that's a very cool thing. Star X's plot is reminiscent of that V sci-fi series from the 1980's. After meeting with a seemingly friendly group of aliens, you, the hero, discover their real plans - to enslave your race for the betterment of their own kind! You always knew they were up to something, but their plan is more sinister that you could have possibly imagined. So you must take your trusty fighter aircraft through a series of air and space-based missions before penetrating their layer and defeating the ultimate overlord boss. If you can accomplish all of the above, you've completed the game. There's a series of power-ups and other useful bonuses that will help you get there, but it's largely down to your own skill, which is how games should be.
