The power of the GameBoy Advance has paved the way for a whole new genre of games to become portable. Up until recently it was technically impossible to fully realise first-person shooters on handhelds. When Doom came out for the Advance, it shifted the LAN party from the networked office to the sunny garden. Duke Nukem was a favourite when it was first released on the PC due to it's gameplay and comedic value. Now you can relive the action wherever you are. This is Duke Dukem Forever. The game is set in and around gambling Mecca, Las Vegas. This is ideal for a first person shooter, and the style just makes the game. Duke Nukem is challenging and addictive to play through by yourself. The subtle film references add comedy value. One of the best aspects of Duke Nukem has to be the multi-player deathmatch mode. Using the additional Link-up cable you can connect up for much multi-player malarkey. With the unpredictability and fallibility of a human opponent, the game never becomes repetitive. Obviously the GBA can't replicate the high quality visuals of the PC version, but it still manages to keep the visual appearance clean and clear. The framerate takes a little performance hit, but that doesn't detract from the playability. Overall, the developers deserve lots of recognition for technical achievement.
