Lotus Challenge Description

Following the trend for manufacturer-based driving sims, which has previously witnessed Italian legends such as Ferrari and Lamborghini, renowned British marque Lotus now has its share of the action in its first computer-based outing since the great Lotus Espirit Turbo Challenge on the Amiga. Also out on PS2 and PC, Lotus Challenge on the Xbox isn't merely a direct port, as it boasts a range of new improvements. Modified tracks, enhanced stunt challenges and an overall more arcade-like handling model are the first apparent enhancements, accompanied by a greatly improved feeling of speed. The game itself gives players the opportunity to drive some of the most desirable Lotus cars, from the Lotus 7, driven by Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner, James Bond's Espirit, to the latest Esprit 2002, and this year's amazing new Proton Satria. Not only involving racing against computer-controlled opponents, LC also offers driving challenges, ranging from daring stunts on movie sets, to pursuing other cars through city traffic. The overall attempt by the developer is to mix the adrenaline rush of racing with the challenge of great driving skills from one of Britain's most famous sports car manufacturers. Also tarted up for the Xbox version are the graphical effects. Real-time shadows and dynamic lighting feature throughout, appearing particularly impressive on the nighttime tracks, when the car headlights light up the road. With the addition of a fairly extensive multiplayer mode, Lotus Challenge has a lot to offer and succeeds where a great many have failed in its attempt to offer an 'everything-in-one' package.
