There are some people who go looking for trouble. Witness Street Fighter II's Xangieff, he of the shin merkins, to pick a random example. Unfortunately for some, trouble has a way of finding its own targets to pick on, and in this case, the blighter has singled out Zeke Holloway, the fine-looking fellow at the centre of the film/amusement park ride spin-off that is The Haunted Mansion. 999 souls are trapped in the mansion, and it's down to gamers to take control of Zeke to ensure they're set free, whilst making sure that he doesn't wind up being literally scared to death and join them. Upon entering the mansion, Zeke finds himself trapped inside with a mysterious fortune teller and other ghostly inhabitants. Only by helping them rid the mansion of evil spirits can he escape. Early in the game, Zeke is given a magical lantern and told that in his quest to vanquish evil, he must restore light to each of the many rooms inside the mansion. But the evil forces are against him are clever and powerful. They have twisted the rooms into supernatural puzzles which must be solved before he can light up the darkness. The evil forces, meanwhile, will try to frighten Zeke into an early grave, so they must be battled using the magic lantern. The halls and stairways of the mansion need to be navigated with care, and upon finding the light source for each room, Zeke must use the lantern to capture the spirits and transform their energy into something he can use, like bravado and courage. If you've seen Ghosthunter on PS2 and thought it was a little too scary, Disney's The Haunted Mansion for Xbox could still give you the willies, but in a pre-teen rather than post-adolescent way.
