Soldier of Fortune: Payback Description

War's a dirty business. It takes you to all kinds of mucky places - deserts, jungles, trenches and the like. People will get up to all kinds of nasty practices to have their way, too. That's why, sometimes, conventional troops just won't do and wars get outsourced to hired guns - mercenaries. When freelance gun-for-hire Thomas Mason is on a routine escort mission that goes horribly wrong, he finds himself neck-deep in just such a conflict, fighting extremists to exact revenge. Soldier of Fortune Payback takes its predecessors and ramps things up a notch, throwing players into a tense and often gruesome warzone. Body parts flying and enemies crawling around trying to get hold of missing limbs are not a rare sight in Payback. This first-person shooter boasts more than 30 weapons, including sub-machine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, projectile explosives and weapon attachments. The game also packs a host of online modes for up to 12 players, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Elimination, Team Elimination, Capture the Flag, and Demolition. Other online include specialist multiplayer maps, persistent online stat tracking and a whole host of server options to customise your online experience.

This game was slated on gamespot so i did wonder whether it was worth a rent? and the answer is yes i thought it was a quite good, great weapons which you can choose from a number of difrent types at the start of each mission, good graphics, story is not to bad and there is loads of gory dismemberments what more can you ask for at the end of a stressful day at work.

Soldier of Fortune isn't a bad FPS. It's got some good little gimicks, like being able to dismember people, and choose weapons at the start of each mission, plus the graphics aren't too shabby. The game needs a map though, as several times I found myself unsure of what to do and it needs a tutorial. Point in case, the first mission. I nearly gave up as I went to the point where the objective marker was but found a roadblock. I had no idea what to do and ended up using an online faq to find out that there was a tiny place to plant explosvies to blow up the road block. Plus in the first mission I ran out of ammo pretty quick and there was no re-supply points or ammo on the bodies of the terrorists I had just killed. But this game, is a decent FPS. It wont win any awards, but it's fun, and that's what games are all about... isn't it? Achievement wise it's a bit hard, with most of them being online achievements, but I never was able to play an online game as there simply aren't enough people playing it.

What a complete pile of dung this game is, poor graphics, bad gameplay, nothing like the original SOF games on the PC. more gore in the older versions also.
