The Sims 2: Castaway Description

Electronic Arts' new Sims Stories brand kicks off with The Sims 2 Castaway. In a nutshell, the game brings EA's unstoppably lovable franchise to a desert island. Think Lost without people wanting to kill you and smokey monsters. Think Survivor without annoying presenters. Think... well, think The Sims on a desert island. The game features a group of Sims who have found themselves in the unfortunate position of having been stranded on a tropical island while cruising off on their holiday. From there, they'll need to survive in the open sandbox that is the island. Your first problem will be, quite simply, one of survival. Players will need to guide their Sim through the basic tasks of eating and finding shelter, allowing them time to get used to the controls and find their way through the game mechanic. As time progresses, however, other needs will begin to creep in. The Sims will start wanting entertainment, and you'll need to get on with the task of forming a community with other survivors from your unfortunate set of circumstances. Alternatively, you might want to take a more adventurous route. Players will be able to hop from island to island, piecing together clues that will eventually lead them away from the hell of idyllic island living and back to the pollution-clogged hustle and bustle of modern life. Throughout it all, you'll see your Sim gradually change as they become more rugged and, well, shipwrecked. If you've ever fantasised about getting stranded with Milky Joe on a desert island, this might be for you.

As a fan of the sims for the pc i was constantly frustrated that i spent my whole time getting up eating, showering and using the toilet with little time left to work etc. I was unsure that the wii version wasn't going to be much different. I was pleasently surprised it was a little more relaxed and the castaway theme made it a refreshing change. My only critisism is that it was a rather short version. the goals where not hard to complete and even me not a hard core gamer bearly went wrong. it took just over a week in total to complete and i was left wishing it was a little longer and more expansive.

Although the Wii has been a phenomenal success all over the world, this game is a prime example of the type of software that could have killed Nintendo's new console off before it had even got started. The reason is simple, its a PS2 port and as such shares the lower resolution textures and models used on the older console. This spoils the game especially as EA did such a good job with another of its current Sims related titles on the Wii, 'My Sims'. So, what you end up with is a PS2 game that plays with 'Wii-mote' controls. Other than that major flaw the game is a typical Sims-esqe resource management, task based game and it should be familiar to anyone who has ever played a Sims game before. Sadly for me, I cant get past the fact that its a lazy port from a technically inferior console and that is just not right :(
