Conan Description

'Swords speak louder than words' proclaims the tagline for Conan from THQ. Well, words are all we have to tell you about the game, along with a few images. Note that neither words nor pictures could possibly relay the brutal and visceral action contained here. Oof! Conan's thirst for adventure and gold leads him to Balmoria, an island in the far western seas. Once there, he finds not riches, but the dark wizard Graven - a man destroyed by his own desires, a man who would consume Hyboria to feed his own lust for power. His weapon is the Black Death, a plague that steals men's souls. Graven's dark magic is so powerful that he has harnessed nature itself to do his bidding. There is one who would defy Graven - the female warrior A'Kanna. The dark wizard has destroyed her homeland and killed her people. She will not stop until he is destroyed, but she cannot wield the weapon that will stop Graven. Only Conan has that strength. This is a power and a responsibility that Conan neither seeks nor desires, but the moment is his, and he and A'Kanna set sail together for distant shores. The journey brings Conan ever closer to Graven, via battles with sand dragons, elephant demons and all manner of unnatural beasts. It's bloody and brutal and fully warrants its BBFC18 certificate. Not for the lily-livered gamer, for sure.

Those of you of a certain age, like me, will have fond memories of Golden Axe and Rastan Saga. You may also have played God of War more recently. Well Conan is a subtle mix of all three. I really like Conan. Its brutal, bloody, and on higher diffuculties, very challenging. Graphics are excellent, the soundtrack atmospheric, and gameplay is the traditional hack and slash mixed up with a nice combo system that rewards you for mastering them. Some of the boss fights, like the dragon, and the sea monster are excellent. Good fun. Worth buying in my opinion.

this game is really good and well worth a rent, you basically just rampage though the levels killing pirates and other random badies, it's alot like god of war but not quite as good. It's very bloody and the controls are easy to get used to, but your thumb does start hurt after a while from bashing buttons.

This is one of those games you really can just pick up and play and get a great deal of fun out of, unfortunatly after playing it for a couple of hours you start to realise that you have seen all the tricks this pony can perform. Although its not all bad as it remains fun to pull of the finishing moves that end up spraying the targets blood and guts all over the scenery and the combo's are imaginative and fun to pull off. The game keeps you on track with cut scenes telling you the story so far and where your heading aswell as generally keeping you on track through out the game aswell, don't go thinking this is a free roaming world but at the same time at least you cant get lost...or can you? about 2 hours in i got completly stuck in a cave level with absolutly no way to get out or advance any furthur, it took four re-loads of the level before the game finally let me continue, surely his type of bug is something of the past, we shouldnt be still having these issues with next gen games. The graphics are actually not bad at all especially when the blood starts to flow but i did notice one thing quite strange, the graphics are better on the demo that can be found on xbox live than they are in the main game itself...interesting! The boss battles are absoultly brilliant and to be fair are a real high point in the game, think god of war style mixed with craatures from the conan world with a great feeling of scale and your on the money. Whilst fighting a dragon boss on top of a large spire type building the camera zoomed downwards as i pulled the last finshing move, i then got to see as the dragon came crashing down towards the camera followed by conan riding a huge boulder, it was great. If you like Golden axe, hack-n-slash style games with some depth then is the game for you. The price you can get it for now is a real bargain so it's deffinatly become more worth it. Pay no more than ?20 though. Good Action Good Graphics Great Bosses Great Combo Design 6/10
