My Sims Description

EA has brought its classic Sims series to Nintendo, and with it, a huge dash of Nintendo accessibility and wholesomeness. Not that the Sims needed much by way of additional wholesomeness, but it certainly seems to be a natural fit with Nintendo. In MySims, players are charged with dragging a town from a state of general decrepitude to being a lovely place to spend an afternoon. To kick things off, players will build their character. A wide range of items are available to customise characters, with players able to create looks ranging from the more conventional (baseball cap and pigtails) to the downright grungy (dreadlocks and mohawks). Once you've got your character up and running, it'll be time to get to work. The town's going to need sorting out, for one. It's pretty rundown, but with a bit of elbow grease and a touch of Nintendo control wizadry, players will be able to get it ship-shape in no time. Using a set of building blocks and tools, players will be able to to build anything from a piece of furniture right up to a brand new home! Of course, it wouldn't be a Sims game if you weren't going to spend a bit of time with the folk around you. Among the locals you'll find the ever-busy Mayor Rosalyn P. Marshall, the less-busy hotel Bellhop, Gino Delicioso, the Italian Chef and Ocean Breeze, who wants to set up a Yoga studio.

'My Sims' is a mixed bag of a game, and as such, should be reviewed on many different levels. First off, who will like this game? Well, if you are a hard-core 'Sims' fan, then this may be a title to steer clear of. All of the complex control and resource management that is present in a usual 'Sims' game has been stripped from this Wii version. In essence it feels like 'Sims-for-kids', although that might sound a little critical to this games fans. If you liked Animal Crossing on any of Nintendos other consoles, then 'My Sims' will feel just about right. Even though the game is simple, its repetitive, task-based game-play should keep you occupied for many hours. For me, the game was let down on two fronts. Firstly the load times and the interruptions created by the game almost constantly paging to memory/disc, are almost unforgivable and more effort on the part of the developer should have been made to eradicate this annoyance. Secondly, the control of the game via the Wii-mote and Nunchuck can be problematic, especially when building. This is particularly annoying as most of the game is spent building ! I guess in general, developers have still yet to nail the movement control with the Wii ! Overall then, not a bad effort, but the failings need to be ironed out if My Sims 2 is on the development list at EA.
