Too Human Description

If there are two things we're really tired of seeing lumped together, its Norse mythology and cyberpunk science fiction. Seriously, how many more times do we have to see this intellectual marriage? Well, at least one, as Too Human hits the shelves. Three if the trilogy is ever completed. Too Human is the 2008 offering from Silicon Knights, the developer behind Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. It twins Norse mythology with cyberpunk in an epic tale of discovery. Players take on the role of Baldur, one of the Aesir, who has taken it upon himself to protect and aid humanity in an ongoing war against the machines. So it is that you embark on an action RPG quest to fight the bad stuff and rescue humanity. Silicon Knights has come up with an innovative new control scheme that uses the right analogue stick for controlling your character's direction and, rather than using the left one for camera control, uses it for deploying weapons, much as you would expect for the likes of Geometry Wars. Too Human is bound to tickle the fancy of loot collectors - there's tons of the stuff, scattered everywhere you look. Similarly, there are oodles of customisation options to get your guy looking and playing just the way you want. Also on offer is online two-player co-op. Even Gods get lonely, you know. It just goes to show that sometimes they're all Too Human.

Great wargear options, Great skill tree, good combat and a fairly good story. The only problem with this game is the story, it is fairly good but just gets Too dis-jointed and confusing at times. If you havent watched the prologue video you will be hard pushed to work out what is actually going on, although the story generaly follows norse mythology it can't help but make things seem more confusing than they really are. I know all the ins and outs of where the story from norse mythology should be going and this game just flits in and out of it when it likes and generaly adds things that, to me, just seem like they are there to confuse things. If you can look past this and complete the game it does start to become a lot clearer though but the problem is a lot of gamers wouldnt bother as it's Too Confusing at the start, which to be honest is where a game should try it's hardest to keep you interested. The combat is pretty good and once you start pulling in the combos and sliding around the screen striking foes left, right and center you will start to really enjoy it. One issue with the combat and that is it is Too easy to die, but you don't die, a valkrie comes down and brings you back to life at your last save point and the really annoying thing is this proccess takes about a minute each time and isn's skipable. When you have died for the tenth time and find yourself making you tenth cup of tea while you wait to be given life once more it can get very annoying. The skill tree is nice and diverse for each different class of fighter but the real winner is the wargear. There is so much wargear in this game i would be amazed if two people ever had the same looking character EVER! I must also add that the graphics are pretty darn good but i did notice a small amount of slow down when faced with a large number of enemies, to be fair though the backdrop and character models look so good you can forgive it for that. Would reccomend buying if you could get it for about ?25 but renting it and giving it a go is a definate must. I would score this with: 7.5/10

First things first. I loved the demo. I really did enjoy it and I played it for many hours discovering all the class unlock secrets and playing around. So all the camera and control issues everyone had with it did'nt bother me. I love diablo and other point and click/loot and kill games. I also really enjoy roleplaying games and MMO's. So there was nothing going to stop enjoying this game, on paper its perfect and reallly tailored to my wants in a game. Now even if i dont like a game I will try and press through the difficult stages just to see what the game really has to offer but On level 2, or act 2 i had to seal this game back up and send it off. The first level as you would have imagined is the demo level, so i went through the first bit of the level in a breeze still with no doubts and really looking foward to see what was beyond the door. It was going really well, leveling boulder up and getting new loot, making my guy look amazing and appling skill points without any problems. The intordution to the first boss is good and taking him down wasnt much of a struggle and was an ok first boss battle. After that, the story gets going and you are taken to the main world. For those who have played lost oddysee the next area reminded me of when you go to the first main town, only with nothing to do, clunky controls and an outdated unreal engine. you cant interact with any NPC and you are just told where to go. Cut scene follows and then your back in to the town i just presumed you had to go back to the ship then it loads you into the ice caves level 2. Here is just constant overpowered and unbalanced abuse of enemies. Thee enemies start to differ and are claerly to higher level. But ive had no where to level up? oh well says too human. As you progress through you notice that the enemies take alot more of your swings, the right stick which is your main attack is very limited to directions and animations stop you from actually hitting what you want. The camera is a pain now in the smaller tunnel areas and you constantly keep have to LB refixing your camera to the center which 9/10 times is facing the wrong way when you run so the direction your running is different and you'll start running in to a wall or something. The enemy set up is the same everytime. Little weak guys, with homing rocket men at the back so if you dont kill these you'll just keep getting knocked down. Then the tough guys and the big robot whih takes forever to kill. You will constantly die and be forced with a 15 second unskippable scene of where an angel will take you to valhalla. then back in wiggle the right stick try to do some damage and your dead again and overall was just a really annoying clunky bad game experience. I've had my share, ive got my 1000 gamerscore on COD4 :/. This game had so much promise and amazing ideas which are alll just badly execcuted. which is a huge dissapointment and shame. This review and perspective was purly on singleplayer maybe it is alot more fun and easy going with a friend. But then again wouldnt you want to buy diablo 2 for ?30 pounds less?
