Trauma Center: Second Opinion Description

Once more unto the theatre, virtual surgeon! Graduating with honours from the DS, Trauma Center makes its debut on the Wii and makes full use of the console's control methods. Derek Stiles is the hot young surgeon whose sterilised shoes you step into, and he's still something of a hotshot operator. Yes, his reputation has followed him from the DS's Under the Knife iteration, regardless of whether you played that particular game or not. Surgery takes a lot of skill and precision, and you can tell how well you're doing during an operation in Trauma Center: Second Opinion by watching the messages that appear on screen. When you do something wrong, a 'MISS' will flash up. If you do something that can only be done one way, 'OK' will appear instead. For actions that can be evaluated, a message appears rating your performance. Your score depends on how well you do, with points being subtracted for every 'MISS'. Also, you'll need to score an 'OK' in order to proceed with the operation. Remember that 'MISS'es will often have a detrimental effect on the patient's vital signs too. Your score will increase as you chain successful actions together, and your chain count will grow for every move you perform correctly in a row. The higher your chain, the more points you'll earn for each move. However, if you get a 'MISS', your combo will end and your chain count will go back to zero. As you make mistakes, the patient's vitals will drop drastically. You'll need to take care of problems like haemorrhaging quickly before your mistakes stack up and there's no way to overcome them. You'll also need to keep an eye on the time limit: patient expiry means Game Over!

In this game you get to carry out operations on patients using various medical tools. This is an innovative idea for a game, but that is the only thing in its favour. Each tool is selected using the joystick on the nunchuk, which is a bit hit and miss. An icon that you pointed to with the wii remote and pressed a button to select a tool would have been a far better control method. Unfortunately, there is an enormous amount of almost completely irrelevant text between missions which you have to press the A button repeatedly to get rid of. The missions themselves are not that difficult to get through, so I would think this game could be completed very easily, but why would you want to? After about half an hour of playing this game, you really feel that you are wasting your life, anything else would be more rewarding than this. If I had bought this game I would be really fed up, (I am fairly annoyed that I ever put it in my game queue!) If you have this game in your queue I would urge you to remove it because I am about to return it and then it might come to you! If there was a possibility of awarding this game zero stars I would have gone for it. This is easily the worst game I have ever played.

Long story short - Carry out surgery on pateints using ur wiirmote as the tools. The game is a good idea but with a weak storyline and with little explanation at points its a total let down. AS the previous reviewer said you have to select tools using the joystick on the nunchuk but it doesnt always work and you end up making mistakes. There's a mass of pointless cut scenes and text to scroll through which gets very tiresome. The missions themselves are not that difficult to get through, but get very frustrating if you cant uindersdtand what to do or you cant get the game to select the correct tool. I played this for a few hours and got utterly bored. Thank-god to swapgame because if I had bought this i would have been very dissapointed. big thumbs down im afraid!
