Project Sylpheed Description

Microsoft may not have been in the arcade business through the mid-'80s, but it sure doesn't want you to forget those long afternoons spent hunkered down at the local pier shoving 10p's into chunks of archaic machinery. Project Sylpheed is a makeover of the classic '80s franchise, with a third dimension and a dash of next-gen gloss thrown in for good measure. Players enter the cockpit as Katana Faraway, taking the controls of a Delta Saber to take on the evil ADAN forces. If you're looking for a tactical shooter, you're looking the wrong way. Project Sylpheed fills a somewhat neglected void in next-gen gaming: frantic space combat. The bullets, missile locks, rockets and beam rifles will keep coming, so don't let your concentration lapse or you'll find yourself drifting through space amidst the wreckage of your ship. Players are able to unlock items in order to customise their ship. To that end, you'll need to pay attention in the Ready Room, where you'll be given your briefing, stats and the opportunity to buy new weapons and upgrades to increase your chances.

I have to say I didn't get very far before sending this game back. It's not that its a really bad game, it simply gave me a headache. There are so many things going on all over the playing field and the backdrop is so cluttered that I spent most of my time squinting at the screen trying to work out what exactly I was supposed to be shooting at. If you are expecting a nostalgic return to games like Freespace or Wing Commander then don't bother renting this game. If you liked Ace Combat 6 but thought it could do with more headache and less gameplay then this is the game for you.
