Scurge: Hive Description

In Surge: Hive, players assume the role of Jenosa Arma, a bounty hunter who has been sent to a remote research lab to investigate why 48 hours previously, its inhabitants sent out a distress signal. The scientists in the remote research lab had been studying a virulent organism known as the 'Scurge'. Jenosa must investigate and salvage any research technology from within the facility. Explore 350 highly detailed levels in a race against time as you try to find decontamination stations that will hopefully nullify the threat of the Scurge that has unfortunately infected Jenosa's body. With 65 unique enemies, including infected biological, mechanical and energy-based creatures, set in fast-paced real-time action, there should be enough to keep even the most experienced shoot'em up fan amused. It is vital to remember that each enemy reacts differently (positively and negatively) depending on how you engage them in combat. There are also various bosses that Jenosa will have to battle on her quest, such as a huge sandworm and an enormous infested totem of rotating cannons to name but two. Armed with a top-secret projectile gauntlet, gamers must seek out multiple energy alignments to effectively dispose of the different enemy classes. With only a prototype battle suit for protection, players must stay alert to help Jenosa complete her objectives on this very dangerous remote planet. To help Jenosa, there are many different power-ups that can be found throughout the game, including the ability to slow down time, being able to slingshot across giant gaps and the means to locate technology for the prototype battle suit. So what are you waiting for? Time is already ticking away?

First of all it's worth getting the fact that this is just a GBA port out the way. It means the touch screen is only used to display a (useful) map, but it's actually good to see a game on the DS that doesn't include touch-screen elements just for the sake of it. This is a really good adventure game that feels like an isometric version of the old Metroid games. There are varied weapons, upgrades and enemies that keep the game entertaining all the way through. Graphics are basic, but excellent gameplay more than makes up for that. Well worth a look.
