Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy Description

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is the follow-up to the hugely successful LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, but where the original game enabled you to play through levels based on the new trilogy of films (Episodes I-III) the sequel enables you to play through Episodes IV-VI. As you progress through the story of the three films, you get access to over 50 characters including your favourites Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca and the droids. Each character has a few characteristics that make them useful in different situations: the droids can open doors, Artoo can fly short distances, Ben and Luke can use the Force and Lightsabers, etc. Your task is to use these abilities to best effect in order to progress to the end of the levels of which there are six per film. Some levels involve flying the many spacecraft of the Star Wars universe, including X-Wing fighters, Snowspeeders and even the mighty Millennium Falcon - a childhood dream for many. However, the majority of levels are on foot, with your characters indulging in platforming action interspersed with fire fights, as you battle against the forces of the evil Empire. As in the original game, there are side quests involving collecting LEGO studs and pieces of kit. The studs can be used to buy items and characters in the Mos Eisley cantina that serves as the game's central location. Kit pieces are combined into vehicles that can be viewed outside the cantina. Once you have finished a level in the story mode, you can return in free play to gather up the remaining studs and kit pieces. You can return with characters you have bought or unlocked in order to use their abilities to access hard-to-reach areas of the level. You can even design your own characters by swapping heads, bodies and legs to create the ultimate LEGO Star Wars creature. LEGO, Star Wars and video games - can there be a better combination?

Sorry, but I have to disagree with one previous reviewer of this game. Its a must rental. If like me you have grown up around the Star Wars saga you are going to love this. It blends the humour of the original Star Wars triliogy into a hugely addictive 3D platform style romp across the Star Wars universe. Yes you can race through the Story Mode, completing the missions. But what I have found so addictive is trying to collect all the hidden items to achieve 100% completion of the game. So far I have been playing this game in little stints for about two weeks, and I am up to about 70% completion, and I have not got bored with it yet. Even my girlfriend who doesnt play video games likes this one. Free Mode is where I am getting the most enjoyment, revisiting completed levels to try and find all the hidden items. And the best bit is that you choose a character you want to replay the level with to find the hidden stuff, but the game gives you a selection of other characters you can change to at will, with which you will be able to find all the hidden items if you use there various abilities. You have got to rent this game, its great, and I defy anyone to not enjoy using the Emperors dark force lighting to electricute every thing in sight, especially the pesky jawas and sand people. One last thing, I nearly forgot to mention that you dont just have platform based levels, you also get to do flying missions, and when you go into Free Mode you get to choose your craft at will from the likes of the rebel ships to the empires tie fighters. Add on top of this that in some levels you also control scout walkers, AT-ATs, speeders and other vehicles you have the best Star Wars game you can find at the moment.

This is game is brilliant. I know, I know, it shouldn't be, but it actually is. As you would expect, adding the LEGO element to Star Wars allows it to be pulled apart and played on the basis of it just being straightforward fun, without having to be a Star Wars fan at all (which I'm not).

I recommend trying it. Not for the graphics (which, incidentally, don't look too bad), not for Star Wars, but just for simple addictive fun.

This is a very funny take of the original Star Wars trilogy. It's not that hard to complete, but you will keep coming back just so you can get those achievement points.

This game is great...Until you've finished it then it becomes quite repetitve but it does add a lot of more features in free play. A lot better than the first one.

This is a pretty good game, it's good fun, especially when played co-op. The one very big disapointment with the game is the inability to play it co-op over xbox live, and if it wasn't for that I would have bought it. As it is it's definately worth a rent, although if you have others around to play with, it's even better!

I was very tempted to purchase this in the local Game store as its one of the cheaper games available but resisted. Instead I rented it and am very glad I did not becuase its a bad game - its actually great fun just not very long. The game is very easy and enormous fun to play (you definitely get the impression there will be plenty of below teens out there notching up all the Achievements) as it has a definite "child friendly" aspect. The two modes - story mode (do the missions with specific characters) and free play (sandbox mode where you choose from all your unlocked characters) try to expand the length but are still the exact same missions. The game is very amusing with lots of humour and a few puzzles to make you pause for thought but certainly not tricky - hence, child friendly. I played it for two days over a couple of mornings and completed over 40% of the game. I would recommend it if you are looking for very light relief and some easily obtained Gamerpoints. Its good fun despite its short lived nature - definitely a rent only title.
