Well, just when you maybe thought that it was time to pack your 'Trunks' away and all had gone quiet on the DBZ front, it returns with a vengeance with Super Dragon Ball Z. A three dimensional arcade-type experience, Super DBZ is a beat-em-up with attitude, featuring all-new combos and fiercely contested mid-air and ground-based battles that'll keep fans coming back. Each of the 18 characters in the game (13 available from the outset and five unlockable, secret ones) including DBZ celebrities Goku, Gohan and Vegeta, are transported straight from the world of Dragon Ball and have their own array of unique attacks and fighting styles recognisable to veteran fans of the series. Newcomers to this particular title will not be completely lost however, as the developer Crafts & Meister is headed up by Noritaka Funamizu, the man who produced Street Fighter II, and it shows in the finished product. Funamizu-san has not lost his touch when bringing a smooth fighter to market, it's safe to say. For a series that's as long in the tooth as Dragon Ball Z, Super DBZ is a real tonic. The different developer has brought forth a fitter, stronger sense of gameplay, with lightning-fast combo moves and brutal denouements to the battles therein. Lumme guv'ner, you can even pilfer your opponent's moves and use them as your own! Like Dragon Ball Z then, only Super this time. We'll fight you for a copy.
