X-Men The Official Movie Game Description

In X-Men: The Official Game, players are able to control Wolverine, Iceman and Nightcrawler as they travel across unique environments. It is up to you to try and win an epic struggle to save mutant-kind against the X-Men's old adversary The Brotherhood, as led by Magneto. Gamers will be able to experience Nightcrawler's acrobatics, surf through the air on Iceman's ice slide and unleash Wolverine's unbreakable metal alloy adamantium claws on some unexpecting foes. Players are also able to experience events leading up to the X-Men: The Last Stand feature film and beyond. The game explains Nightcrawler's mysterious absence from the movie. X-Men fans will be glad to know the game replicates every aspect of the X-Men universe, including costumes, enemies and even the voice of Patrick Stewart (who plays the role of Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men). You can also explore famous settings from the movie, such as Alkali Lake, Dark Cerebro and the Statue of Liberty. X-Men: The Official Game lets players face off against villains from the film and then some. The gameplay offers stealth-style action, time-based missions and melee fighting that will undoubtedly have gamers glued to their screens. Players can also experience control over their heroes like never before, as they increase their character's superpowers over time through the Mutant Evolution System.

First of all, a big hats off to Z-Axis - its been a long time since a multi character game has had this much ambition lavished on it. To have 3 different characters that have very different abilities AND tie them into one game was a huge ask. As with many reviewers, though, I feel that the mistake was to rush its release to tie-in with X3 the movie. Firstly, 360 users miss out on a next-gen game that would have looked stunning. This is something some of the early releases suffered from (King Kong, a prime example). Also, the use of only 3 X-Men means that the game rapidly becomes repetitive. If it had been released in 2007, as a true next-gen version, with a less linear plot, this would have been an ace game. As a rushed "movie cash-in", it falls way below the standards expected of the second wave of 360 releases.

Ok, I got this just for the Gamer Points, but wow, this game is REALLY REALLY bad, it's basically an XBox game with some added lighting. Graphics are poor even for an XBox. But .... once you get into it, it's a real button basher! Took me around 6 hours to get 100% completion, so easy Gamer Points at least!
