Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown Description

The Ice Age is coming to a close, and our sub-zero friends Manny, Sid, Diego and Scrat all return in this adventure video game set in a slowly melting setting of waterparks, geysers and tarpits. Ice Age 2: The Meltdown signals the return of Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth and Diego the Sabre-Toothed Tiger, and with a little help from Scrat, the dentally-Challenged super-squirrel, the biggest of all jobs is on: the furry foursome are soon aware that the melting ice will flood the valley in which they and their friends reside. It's a platform/adventure paradise populated by animals that need to be rescued from a watery demise, and with the help of the amusingly sabre-toothed squirrel from the first movie (that's Scrat, remember?) you have to help your bigger friends cross the cold-but-getting-slightly-warmer-by-the-minute landscape to safety. Who would have thought that an unlikely looking would-be hero's collecting of acorns would lead to something so wonderful and satisfying as saving lives. Oh, the joy of video gaming! Ice Age 2, we salute you.

Upon receiving the copy of this game through the post from Swapgame, my suspicions as to its gameplay quality where aroused by the fact that the three game save files on the cartridge where only completed to 1%. On actually playing the game I came to understand why. Its a 3D-ish roaming adventure whereby the player plays as one of the three characters from the movie. The game revolves around making your way through the levels whilst achieving any objectives that may be set in your way. This is very straightforward and no great advancement in video gaming ! The problem with this game though is its high dependancy on playing the same level over and over again in order to achieve any progress. Throughout the levels you must play at some point, all of the characters, as they have differing abilities that allow them to progress. Once again, fairly simple stuff, but the whole thing is hampered by sub standard graphics, clunky control and very confusing map layouts that more often than not, leave you confused as to where you need to go or what you need to do. Rent the game by all means, but good luck getting past 1% before boredom kicks in !
