The World Series of Poker videogame is based on the hugely popular World Series of Poker tournament, the finals of which are held each year in the spiritual home of gambling and frittering, Las Vegas. The World Series of Poker is the world's premier poker event, drawing thousands of entrants and millions of viewers worldwide, and the WSOP videogame features the likenesses of many of the poker professionals who were competing for the big money in 2005. For the first time ever last year, the 2005 WSOP Tournament was held at Harrah's Rio Suites in Las Vegas, which is the same location simulated in the game.
