Condemned: Criminal Origins Description

Monolith Productions is garnering some highly enthusiastic attention at the moment. The team behind the warmly received No One Lives Forever has been in the press again recently following the release of the psychological shock shooter F.E.A.R. And the release of the Xbox 360 was just the excuse for a console foray after years of specialising in the PC end of the gaming scene. Teaming up with SEGA's American arm they bring you Condemned: Criminal Origins. Continuing the developer's current penchant for the darker side of things, Condemned puts you in the well-polished brogues of FBI Agent Thomas, whose chosen field is the study, pursuit and capture of serial killers. Track these death-worshipping humans like the animals they are through their preferred habitat - mazes of broken windows, crumbling brickwork and dilapidated tenements. Your long-developed skills as a detective and a range of precision forensic tools will help you, but you'll have to rely just as much on split second reactions and brawling skills if you are to get out of your mission in one piece. Monolith made its name showing what could be done on games running through Windows, at a time when nobody believed in a DOS-less future for PC gaming. This technical expertise is brought to bear on the latest Microsoft confection, the 360, with lighting, texture mapping and filtering techniques employed that are like nothing you'll have seen this generation. The first person viewpoint that Monolith favours is used, but this is still an adventure game where you execute melee moves on your quarries, as well as pick up and throw a variety of inanimate objects. Full compatibility with 5:1 surround sound will allow you to take advantage of your home movie set-up, and sophisticated and reactive enemy AI completes the package, making Condemned a suitable tech fest for a debut on such an able machine. You also get, as is the vogue these days, an involving plot with twists a plenty to keep you interested. If your new Xbox 360 has just joined an already impressive array of high-end entertainment technology in your front room, here's just the thing to put your new setup through its paces.

***HEALTH WARNING : Only play from 9am - 6pm in well lighted areas!*** Can I have a night light please!? Wow, so far this has to be one of my favourite 360 games! It has you hooked from the beggining, it aims to scare and the mix of lighting, sounds and mood do this fantasticly! The gameplay and story are also brilliant and enjoyable! I often find it relaxing bashing bums heads in with metal pipes! The hitting and blocking system works very well for this type of game! It is a key point in FPS(/action) game history in my view! It's true that it clocks in at only around 7 hours but it is still an amazing game that deserves 5 stars!

bloody scary game, sent it back on the second to last level as i got too scared when i saw messages written in blood on the walls, a body in an oven and constantly heard people moving about but never found them. a bit repetitive but i can afford to be as its so damn scary

One of the best game I have played on the 360 yet, well done Sega. Deep, dark, and at times scary enough to make my girlfriend jump off the sofa. I recommend playing with your lights turned off, and plug a set of good stereo headphones in to your TV for maximum atmospheric effect. The game is a nice twist on the FPS genre, with a heavy emphasis on melee weapons, you get a great deal of satisfaction clubbing a bad guy round the head with a fire axe, or plank of wood with nails through the end. Give it a go. I completed the game through fairly easily on normal difficulty, but there is enough replay value if you decide you want to collect all the hidden items and complete the game on the harder difficulty.

This is one of those games I'd consider short but sweet. It is however a fairly slow paced game in comparison to typical run and gun shooters. Where the game picks up is when the story starts to develop. It does a really great job of creating a tense atmosphere and had me on the edge of my seat towards the end of the game. Locations throughout the game were fairly varied and quite vast in size. Definately worth a rental.

Supurb game this one. Alot of freaky stuff in every level and the idea of collecting 6 birds and 3 metal pieces in level 1-9 and just six birds in level 10 is good as it gets you to look around more. The plot to the story is very freaky and weird and will have you pulled in from the start, which is very good for a game like this. The game gives you the option to either use a wide range of melee weapons, from a 2x4 wood to a desk drawer or even a locker door. it also lets you use a select of firearms and these are found scattered around certain levels or picked up from hobo's etc. Condemed will make your heart race and make your skin go cold as you never know whats going to be round the next corner. Genius of a game this one and really enjoyed playing it.

a very good game that is different from most first person games. this is one of them games that aims to frighten you and does this well. a bad thing about this game is that it is very short. (i completed it twice in 15 hours) it does tend to get a bit samey after the 1st few chapters but the later missions are great and have thair scary moments. this game is deffinately worth a rent.

Not usually a fan of these games, but gave it a go after downloading the demo. Graphics, sound and gameplay are very good, but the gameplay gets very samey after the first chapter. Would have been very dissapointed if i had bought this as I completed it in 2 days. Worth renting, but don't expect too much...
