The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Description

Oblivion is the latest chapter in the hugely successful and critically acclaimed Elder Scrolls series of role-playing games and really marks a significant step-forward for the genre into the next-generation. Oblivion boasts one of the most richly detailed and vibrant game-worlds ever created and will no doubt appeal to anyone who has ever been a fan of RPGs. This game will convince even the most hard-hearted action-adventure or fps fan that the RPG genre is very much alive and well and thriving. The next generation pixel-shader effects, designed especially for high definition televisions, create unprecedented visuals, including lifelike towns, dungeons, and the most realistic forests ever created in a game. Immersive is an overused word in the world of videogames, but it is the most apt to describe this game. Oblivion combines a powerful combination of freeform gameplay and sublimely beautiful graphics. The game is immense - 200+ hours of gameplay is estimated for the average player! You can also play it at your own pace and in your own way. You can get straight into unravelling the main quest or choose to explore the vast world and find your own challenges. The enormous world of Oblivion is open for you to explore at your own pace, and shorter challenges such as fighting bandits, mixing potions, creating magic items and persuading friends keep the challenges coming. The storyline will be familiar to those who have played previous games in the series. After the mysterious and untimely death of the Emperor, the throne of Tamriel lies empty. With the Empire ready to crumble, the gates of Oblivion open and demons march upon the land - laying waste to everything in their path. To turn the tide of darkness, you must find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel. You get to pretty much create and play almost any character you can imagine, from the sneaky wood-elf thief, to the noble warrior to the sinister assassin to the wizened sorcerer. Oblivion also features over 1,000 non-player characters who come to life like never before with facial animations, lip-synching, and full speech. They even engage in unscripted conversations with each other and you. The game also boasts an an all-new combat and magic system which brings first person role-playing to a new level of intensity where you feel every blow. The combat and magic systems are very intuitive too, and you will learn as you play. No need to get lost or confused by long, tedious tutorials with this game, which is great news for 'casual' RPGers.

Im new to the elder scrolls and i have to say WOW!. The graphics are stunning. The gameplay is fun and very addictive. Theres abssolutly loads to do. This is not a game that is possible to complete in a day or two. This Game is the best RPG i have ever seen and ever played including all the ones on PC. the only problem would be the few glitches and few slowdowns when racing along the forests on a horse at full speed can make game laggy and a bit of slow down but that is it. eveything else is perfected. I highly recomend you rent this game! If ur an RPG lover uve got to be really daft not to!

I am also new to The Elder Scrolls game and can only say wow! For renting games this is one that you can't let go of as there are so many things to do. I had to send it back after 3 days because I wasn't doing anything else, and I think I had only got through 8% of the game! A fantastic game if you've got a void for 2 weeks and need something to fill it!

Brilliant. I've returned this to SG, but only because I've bought a copy as there's no way I'll get to play it through all the way in a short time. I also expect I'll want to play it again afterwards to do it in a 'different way' - for instance, at the moment I'm playing as a 'good' character, so I'm not stealing anything, or breaking into peoples' houses to get gold, but I fancy trying it that way later. It's a bit overwhelming because you can just wander off and do zillions of quests that seem to have nothing to do with the main quest, but you never know if you're powerful enough to do the side quests until you try.. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' way to play the game, just play it the way your character would. I've found quests my dad (who's been playing the PC version for a few months) has never come across, which gives an idea of the breadth of quests available. The graphics are great, the combat is fun, etc. There's no multiplayer, but you don't need that with this game. Brilliant.

Im also new to Oblivion but this is possibly the best game on the 360 even with no multiplayer

Im more of a FPS or action/adventure sort of gamer but this was absolutely amazing! the scale is just fantastic, i was playing it solidly for 3 weeks but still didnt complete it, i needed a break after that long. the graphics are really good, and instead of the usual RPG (which i loathe) where you have an irritating team of "mystical demons" and "mages" or an irritating camera angle that gets stuck everywhere, you play this in first person. It really is good, i dont enjoy the whole japanese style of magic fantasy crud, but on this i just hit people with a sword and got by fine. Absolutely amazing game, reccomended to anyone

WOW!! What a game. it took me 100 hours plus to finish the game. Everytime i put the disc in, i knew that i was going to be in the game for a minimum of 5 hours. One day i played solid from 6am to 3am the next morning. I just could not put the controller down. Even my girlfreind was ready to toss my console over the balcony and leave me. Choose wisely, cuz its your console or social life. I know what i would choose hands down every time. VERY VERY ADDICTIVE!!!!!!

This is fantastic! Every member of Swap Game must play this - as they say on Top Gear "your not a petrol head until you've owned a Alfa" - you're not a gamer until uyou've played this!

The RPG which all others will try to emulate. The main game is structured well giving you ample reasons to progress without making you feel as though you are forced down a specific path. The side quests range from the great to the sublime, the missing artist quest being one of my favourites. If you want a sense of purpose other than the main storyline then the guild quests fit the bill perfectly. You really feel like part of something bigger when you join a guild and the rewards for promotion can be substantial. With the new add ons such as Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isle Bethseda have shown their ongoing commitment to continually expanding Oblivion. My only niggle, why oh why Bethseda didn't you let use use our weapons whilst on horseback?

Really fun. Hundreds of different story lines for each different class. over 60 hours of game play. Good graphics. Nice magic and weapons. Skill advancement is a bit like runescape but much more interactive and interesting. Complete freedom. Easy and Hard difficulty's. All in all a very good game.
