Kameo: Elements of Power Description

It's time for Rare to silence its critics. Since the British game studio, once comfortable in the pocket of Nintendo, was bought up by Microsoft for an exorbitant sum, many have wondered how such a large investment could ever be recouped. Throughout the whole life cycle, Rare managed only two games: the lamentable Grabbed by the Ghoulies and the admittedly rather better Conker Live and Reloaded, itself a rehash of an old N64 title. Rare finally seem keen to please their Microsoft overlords though and that total is about to be equalled in the first week of the Xbox 360's release. One title is Perfect Dark Zero, and it's so secret how long that has been in the making. The second is Kameo: Elements of Power. Kameo is a fantasy action adventure played in the 3rd person. The elaborate storyline tells of a goodly Elven king who used an ancient magical technique to vanquish a rabble-rousing Troll leader. And though he succeeded, he also mysteriously disappeared. Years pass and the Elves enjoy their hard-won peace, while the widowed Elf queen rules in the king's stead. She has two daughters who can succeed her: Kalus, the eldest and a nasty bit of work, and the angelic but junior Kameo. So it's just as well that tradition allows either one to accede to the throne. Kameo ends up being able to harness the artefact last used by the king, the Elements of Power. What you need to know is that you are able to control 10 different elements, a rag-tag bunch of plants, rocks and flaming creatures with different abilities. Choose the services of appropriate elements as you go about bashing big nasty green trolls, and trying to save the kingdom once again. Fast paced and tons of fun, Kameo may have an all new load of characters but their design is pure Rare. A return to form? Long may it continue.

This game was much better than I was expecting. Solid good fun for a few days. This is the kind of game that makes my swapgame account worth while!

This game is thoroughly enjoyable, the control system is very good considering the number of warriors. But dont worry, the game does a nice job of adding each warrior throughout the story and doesnt just throw you into the mix with no idea what you are doing. I found the best part of the game to be the overall art style which was a welcome change over some of the more photo-realistic graphics in games nowadays. The boss battles were also well done and entertaining and the mixture of warriors abilities meant you could tackle your foes in many different ways, which adds strategy to the game. Kids will love this game also as the story is told very simply through a nice clear dialogue and never becomes frustratingly hard. A great game from Rare and one that doesnt get enough praise or attention

Good few nights of fun with the kids. Beautiful world i would be happy to live in - Orcs and all! Clever different game, which is highly addictive, although i really couldnt be bothered getting the A ratings. End boss was a let down after the build up. Short but sweet.

Don't be fooled by the kiddy visuals. Very nice graphics and varied, fun gameplay make renting Kameo a must. The only problem i see with this game is its short length, but that is not an issue when we're talking about a rental service. 2 thumbs up.

Hmm,Rare, you are naughty guys, this is a good game, but i remember you for classics like Banjo Kazooie,Goldeneye or even(showing my age here) Jetpac, this game reminded a bit of Grabbed by the ghoulies, come on...do a revamp of some of the old Ultimate play the game classics(maybe on xbox live arcade perhaps, make an old 'un very happy!)

Kameo is a very good game if your under 10 years old if your any older than that you will find the game's challenges a little on the easy side. Dont get me wrong its beautiful eyecandy, the colours are bright the characters are fun but the gameplay is a bit linear. Great if your not looking for anything taxing.

A fun, if short game. Graphically one of the best looking games available at launch for the Xbox 360. Little in the way of original gameplay, but still enjoyable. Unfortunately there is no progression of difficulty through the game and the last boss is as easily defeated as the first. Worthy of inserting in your rental queue if you don't already own the title. If you're into gamerscore there are 700 easy points available here and 300 not so easy ones. Completeing the game, collecting the fruit and doing all the side missions will net you the first 650, then the boss battles in co-op will net you the last 50. After that it's hard going to get an 'A' rating on each mission. overall: I give it a harsh 3 rating because it plays so similarly to Starfox Adventure on the gamecube and brings little more than pretty graphics to the genre. Rare have some great IP but I think this time around they failed to fully realise what they are capable of. Having said that this game has kept me entertained for a week.

Incredibly pretty, but horrifyingly dull. It's more of a rolling tech demo than a game.

Features
  • Real-time morph-into-warrior action - This innovative combat system allows players to harness and strategically employ the unique powers of 10 elemental warriors from the five Elements of Power (Plant, Water, Rock, Ice and Fire), including Major Ruin, the armadillo, and Ash, the fire dragon. Each warrior has up to eight powerful abilities, and players can upgrade their warriors' abilities through strategic augmentations, ultimately providing numerous gameplay possibilities. With the game's fast-paced action, loads of enemies and massive boss encounters, success requires clever and strategic deployment of each warrior's powers and ability to master "quick-switch" combinations. Engage in up-close combat on the battlefield with Pummelweed, a wicked, boxing plant-warrior, or finish off enemies as Chilla, an ice yeti, by throwing penetrating ice spears.

  • Next-generation gaming - Transcending the common gaming aesthetic with greater cinematic appeal, "Kameo" represents the cutting-edge graphics and gameplay expected of next-generation gaming on Xbox 360. "Kameo" boasts stunning battlefield experiences where gamers will experience thousands of simultaneous enemies with independent artificial intelligence, as well as exciting special effects, high-quality voice-over and high-definition graphics enabled only through Xbox 360. The visceral and engaging online experience is enhanced with the latest developments in Xbox Live support.

  • Vast exploration across a mystical, magical world - Lush environments, an engrossing story, marvelous creatures and clever environmental puzzles abound in this fantastical, richly envisioned universe. In this world, Kameo must master her new ability to transform into various warriors and harness their elemental powers to save her family from Thorn, the evil troll king.

  • Immersive and intense cooperative gameplay - "Kameo" enables multiple players to vanquish foes together in split-screen cooperative mode.
