Sonic Rush Description

When the many devotees of SEGA's blue hedgehog frontman heard about Sonic Rush they could scarcely maintain their collective composure. Many felt that the eye watering speed and action of the original Sonic games on the Mega Drive did not carry over as effectively as it might have done. Just as Mario fans do, many of them began to long for a return to the old, simple days of the 2D platformer. The DS is fast becoming, if not all things to all men, at least a lot of things to a lot of people. And these two gangs of retro enthusiasts are not to be disappointed if they own everybody's favourite clamshell console. A new 2D Mario Brothers is to grace the machine's twin screens, while Sonic Rush, a reprise of the platform action that made the 'blue dude with 'tude' famous. Sonic Rush makes full use of the space afforded it by the DS's famous twin screens, with the be-trainered slug eater running down plunging dives and steep inclines, looping and jumping all the way and as usual in search of some jewels, in this case the powerful and mysterious Sol Emeralds. Our hedgehog friend Sonic is joined by the (fully playable) guardian of these stones herself, Blaze the Cat, her name no doubt referring to her red-faced shame at losing the jewels which she was charged with protecting. Or maybe to the fact that she's no slouch when it comes to running. Whatever, it seems that cats and hedgehogs, unlikely as it seems, can be friends.

All older gamers will have fond memories of Segas blue mascot on the Mega Drive. Everyone seems to remember a time when they played Sonic and nothing else. This franchise really does rest on its past glories but can an updated version for the DS rekindle an interest in a blue hedgehog wearing red trainers ! The first thing to note is that this game really does return to its roots, Good old-school 2D side scrolling graphics with the odd 3D boss level thrown in for good measure. So does it cut it in todays world of complex 3D adventures. It does and yet again it does'nt. If you really are a fan of the style of gameplay that Sonic offers, then you will be in gaming heaven, but for gamers who want something more than a lightning fast twitchfest, then this game will disappoint. For me, the best bits were the boss battles, but the main substance of the game (the 2D side scrolling levels) left me frustrated and somewhat bored. One to rent for nostalgias sake !

you're encouraged to run through the levels but then there are spikes and enemies just standing there and cos you cant destroy them by running your the one that gets damaged!! very unfair and frustrating game. also - 2 completely different characters - but all the same levels. even more dissappointing. looks good, sounds good, great adreneline rush but sudden pitfalls and frustrating baddies made me give up on it pretty quickly.
