GUN Description

Are Wild West games the new World War II games? We're all for a trend allowing us to live out our childhood dreams as gunslingers in the untamed west. And we've now seen two such efforts in as many months, with October 2005 seeing the release of Darkwatch, a cowboy sim with added vampires. Now Activision has its own outlaw offering, and the good news is it's developed by Tony Hawk people Neversoft, and written by a proper Hollywood screenwriter, Randall Jahnson, the pen behind The Mask of Zorro's sword. Gun follows the adventures of Colton White. Poor old Colton pays the price for living on the wild frontier by losing everything he once held dear. And having done so, he does whatever anyone else would do in a land chock full of guns and horses - he goes on a rampage in search of the outlaws who need to be taught a lesson. There'll be plenty of 'reckons', 'd'you hears' and 'Yee-hahs' as you take to your trusty steed and roam the great American wilderness, a sprawling and varied environment full of canyons, mountains, plains, forests, goldmines and towns, each with its own saloon for drinking, gambling and fighting. With access to six-shooters, shotguns, gatling guns, arrows, hatchets and explosives, you undertake a mission-based quest to rid the west of all types of scum. Be they cattle rustlers, deputies or the dreaded 'Injuns', nobody is safe from the vengeful trigger finger of Colton White. Hang around with whores, play poker, or get up to more energetic activities like robbing trains, collecting bounties and murdering buffalo, a-stealthing and a-shooting as a-appropriate. You may be too old to dress up as a cowboy these days, but that doesn't mean you can't savour the taste of the west, and - if you like - try to win it.

it is a very good game, i love it, yes it is a complete port from the xbox version with a few new things like weapons and different TNT barrels, but it is a damn awesome game, the storyline is gripping yet short making it good for a weekend rental.

I found this game enjoyable, and although not particularly challenging(except that hunting one) it took some time to complete, no real replay value though

An excellent game - but not one for the Xbox 360. The graphics seemed no better than the those from the Xbox, a consequence of rolling the game over from the older platforms to next-gen without much thought. Although there is plenty to do, one's attention span can only last so long - the story is extremely short, ending in missions which are more apt in a game such as Quake or Doom. Had I played this on Xbox or PS2 I would be raving about it a lot more, but have sent it back to SG dissapointed.

Definatly worth giving this game a go. Story is pretty short, but the side missions are pretty cool, and are a good extra on the game. To add, it would have been good to see a live side to this game.. shootouts at dawn online with your mates would have been a laugh..

GUN is by no means a next-gen game, but it IS a decently fun 3rd person shooter set in the old Western times, which means there is a lot of violence, swearing and a bit of sexual refernece here and there, thus warranting the 18 rating. In a very brief summary, don't rent GUN thinking it is anything worthy of the 360's immense prowess. Unfortunately the only graphical difference between the 360 version and PS2 and Xbox version is a couple high-res textures. So, if you're looking for a gory 3rd person shooter to last you a few days (which is all it will last), GUN is certainly worth a peeper!

By far the worst 360 game I've played, the graphics arnt good, the gameplay lacks any elemets that are fun and is way too short and easy. If you have wanted to play the game for sometime now then give it ago, if only to convince yourself not to get it but other than some easy achievements I couldn't even be bothered to finish the game.

Hmmmmmm......what can I say? Whilst I was gently pleased with this game intially, it had all the flavours of a port from the xbox. I noticed strange little things like odd shaped polygons, for example triangular shaped bullets in the various character bullet belts. Its ok if you after some easy gamer points, or are a fan of adventure/FPS games, and it has some good moments. I would have marked it up as three stars but I had a glitch when I played it which meant I was stuck at a certain point in the game and couldnt get out of a boat, so I couldnt progress, so I sent it back to get the next game in my list. In summary....not bad, but not next gen enough to keep my attention, Im now used to quality titles like Oblivion so will mark anything down that isnt up to scratch.
