Gone but certainly not forgotten, are the MediEvil games on the first PlayStation console. Originally developed by the Cambridge branch of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, the games were notable for the imaginative world in which they were set. A peaceful land was beset by the attack of an undead army, raised by the evil Lord Zarok, a necromancer thought dead for centuries. Only one man - or rather, corpse - can stop him: Sir Daniel Fortescue, himself a victim of the unholy fiend many years ago and risen from the dead in defiance of his hellish machinations. The second instalment in the series took a different direction. Where the first had been more exploratory and open ended, the second was linear but more action packed. It was also distinguished by the inclusion of a host of fun mini-games. The launch of the PSP has seen the release of a fair few blasts from the past, risen from the grave to take advantage of the new possibilities offered by its portability and powers of WiFi connectivity. How appropriate then, that MediEvil should make a long overdue return, this time bearing the sobriquet Resurrection. Set anew in the realm of Gallowmere, MediEvil Resurrection once again pits the skeletal Sir Dan against his necrotic nemesis, Lord Zarok. Fans of the old games will experience humorous nostalgia aplenty as the game reworks the mythology of the original, and a compelling storyline takes players through the game's many levels and locations. Also heavily featured are mini-games in the mould of the series' second iteration, and it is in these fun, arcade style episodes that you can take on other PSP owners. A welcome return for an old favourite, MediEvil Resurrection will delight old fans and newcomers alike.
