Huge, terrifying and technologically advanced aliens that hunt humans for sport are as sound a premise as any for a science fiction franchise. Schwarzenegger vehicle Predator was the talk of the playground and the workplace when it was released in 1987, and spawned a sequel and several long running comic books, most famously Alien vs. Predator, which in turn became a video game and in time a (quite disappointing) movie. Now Vivendi are bringing an all-new spin-off to your home video console, and it's called Predator: Concrete Jungle. Developed by license specialists Eurocom, the game is a third-person action adventure where you control a 10 foot tall vicious Predator stalking across a vast cityscape. The enormous alien can use his different vision modes, weapons and cloaking system to hunt and destroy humans at will, but he does have a specific objective: to wreak revenge on a Mafia boss who wishes to expose his existence to the world at large. The twist is that the game takes place over two separate moments in time: 1930 and 2030. The well established universe of the Predator race is already steeped in a rich invented mythology and the game draws heavily on it, referring to the origins of the Weyland-Yutani empire in its storyline. Likewise, the Predator takes most pleasure in honourably hunting his prey rather than killing indiscriminately. Fans will also recognise the weapons available which include the familiar wristblades, plasmacaster, spear gun, smart disk and cool combi-stick. The combat system allows you to assign different attack moves depending on your preference. To search the concrete jungle you can also use four different visual scanning techniques: Thermal, Neural, Prey and Tech scans. Good news all round then, if you like Predators tearing people to pieces and found that the recent Aliens vs. Predator film left you less than satisfied.
