Samurai Warriors Description

KOEI have made quite a name for themselves in recent years with their own brand of historically-grounded slash 'em ups. The Dynasty Warriors series, now in its fifth iteration, casts players as heroes participating in actual battles from China's Three Kingdoms period. In these games, featuring colourful, arcade-style, sword-swinging gameplay, would-be heroes of the day must hurry to where they are needed most on the battlefield, paying close attention to the map display. In last year's Samurai Warriors, KOEI transplanted the action to feudal Japan, during the warring states era (the bloody period in Japan's history that also forms the backdrop for Shogun Total War on PC). Taking control of real historical characters like Nobunaga Oda and Hattori Hanzo, players could pitch themselves against a wide variety of enemies, not only soldiers and archers like in the Dynasty Warriors games, but also Japanese musketeers and ninja. And as well as pitched fights on the battlefield, there were also randomly generated castle levels where you had to avoid flame-throwers, giant blades and traps. Now, just as it did with each sequel in the Dynasty Warriors series, KOEI is releasing an Xtreme Legends expansion pack to complement Samurai Warriors. Called Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends, or Sengoku Musou Moushouden in Japan, it is a playable game in its own right. But you can also use it to modify the original Samurai game, and continue as one of four powerful new characters: Tadakatsu Honda, his daughter Ina, Hideyoshi Hashiba or Yoshimoto Imagawa. Each character has their own unique story, with multiple endings. The fifteen characters from the original game all get a new weapon and weapon upgrade system, new items and skills. There's also an all new battlefield, Komaki-Nagakute. As well as the new characters and environments, there's tons of extras for fans of the Warriors games: new VS mode stages, a Survival mode course, improved balance and AI throughout the game as a whole and a harder difficulty setting. There's even a 'visual encyclopedia' with information about the historical period in which the game is set. All in all, it looks like a nice bundle to breathe a bit of life back into your old copy of Samurai Warriors.
