The snowballing popularity of street racing games meant that it was only a matter of time before someone got round to doing it with motorbikes. Well Speed Kings does just that, combining intense racing with combat stunts and traffic in a Burnout-meets-Road Rash kind of way, delivering all the attitude, thrills and danger associated with driving far too fast through busy towns and streets. There are a total of 12 street circuits to be raced upon, set throughout a variety of locations such as London, Hamburg and Las Vegas. Each environment is packed full of destructible objects and features multiple traffic formations, which are provided by the game's advanced AI system. But traffic needn't be a problem as Speed Kings allows you to avoid pile-ups and obstacles by taking to the air and jumping clear of the danger. However, you don't want to lose control of the bike, as a deformation system means that any damage can have a serious effect on performance - so always drive carefully (not really!). The game features 22 bikes, based around production and custom real world models, as well as a selection of riders that each sport their own unique driving styles and aggressive rider taunts. However unique each their driving styles are, though, it doesn't mean they won't be partaking in the game's heavily-emphasised crazy stunts, which include such tricks as death-defying jumps and hair-raising power down slides under lorries. To conclude, Speed Kings is very much a typical arcade racer, albeit with an emphasis on danger, fatal racing manoeuvres and realistic crash sequences. It features a host of both single and multiplayer modes, so there's plenty to return for once you've completed it. If you've played Burnout 2, then you'll know what to expect - only in a two-wheeled guise.
