Spy Hunter 2 Description

Modern day resurrections of classic arcade games are now common ground in video games. It was triggered by the age of 3D gaming, in which developers suddenly realised they were able to produce their favourite games in the third dimension. Midway's Spy Hunter received the upgrade treatment in 2001 on PlayStation 2 - a good game that brought the G-6155 Interceptor up to date, but that also retained most of the classic gameplay traits of the original. Now there's another sequel on Xbox, ingeniously named Spy Hunter 2. With the first 2001 offering being handled by Pilotwings developer Paradigm, it stands to reason that when Angel Studios took charge of the sequel, a few things were going to change. But it's not for the worse, it's a better game than its predecessor, and here's why. On the face of it, Spy Hunter 2 appears to be just more of the same, only a little bigger and more extravagant. Players are now able to take control of a faster, more menacing racer - namely the G-8155 - which is equipped for off-road and arctic missions, and that also plays host to a plethora of new and advanced weapons and defense systems such as an auto-tracking turret and indestructible shielding. There are more weapons, more bad guys, more bosses, a fresh story and a respectable 16 missions. But there's more to it than that, because for this sequel enemy AI has been noticeably improved, making the adventure as a whole much tougher. It forces the players to implement new strategies mid-mission, and to aid player, your car now comes equipped with land mines, oil slicks and smokescreens. It's no walk in the park, but anything less would have been a disappointment. The mainstream population of gamers and Spy Hunter fans alike will most likely enjoy this new adventure from start to finish, and with good reason. Spy Hunter 3, anyone?
