Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) Description

It doesn't matter what century it is. Democracy has its enemies, and from time to time those enemies need shooting at. With that in mind, Infinity Ward has taken its ever popular Call of Duty series out of the 1940s and World War II and into the modern era. You might have left behind the moral comfort to be had from knowing you're fighting Nazis, but now you get to play with all kinds of fancy modern doodads. Fighting as a U.S. Marine or a British SAS soldier, you'll travel the world, dropping into troubled hotspots through a twisting and turning story to defend truth, justice and…well, whatever qualifies as the American way these days. You'll fight with any of 70 new weapons and pieces of kit, including assault rifles with laser sites, claymore mines, .50 caliber sniper rifles, and M-249 SAW machine guns. Other fancy gadgets include night-vision goggles and ghillie suits for you to do your stealthy thing with. Naturally, it all comes with a dollop of next gen gloss, with the graphics overhauled and improved audio which includes realistic battle communications chatter. The multiplayer aspect builds on the experience provided in Call of Duty 2, with a create a class option allowing players to customise their gear, unlockables and perks coming out of experience points, and matchmaking and leaderboards.

Call of duty 4, One of the best games of the century in my opinion. The single player is avergae, but the multiplayer without a doubt set a new bar for FPS's The single player was full of twists and turns, and an overal quite enjoyable game. The only problem was the length, it was very short. The multiplayer however has seen many hours from me. The gametypes are very enjoyable, the weapons are quite well balanced, with the exception of the mp5, which is very overpowered and is the gun mostly used. The bolt action snipers were great aswell, the M40A3, being one of the most enjoyable and fun weapons ive ever used on a FPS. The perks also set a new standard, the genious innovation to give you boost's and also even out the game. Another great thing is the create a class. It has been done before but not as deeply, and it works ever so well. Lastly i would like to mention how great the maps are. They have all been brilliantly designed, and are very enjoyable. P.S, please check out my youtube channel at ww.youtube.com/videogamemovies12 it is full of gameplay videos

SINGLE PLAYER review only. This game has many of the exact same flaws as COD3 - Incredibly dumb friendly and enemy AI, scripted sequences filled with what can only be described in internet vernacular as “LOL-Fail”, stupid checkpointing and ‘trigger’ locations, tedious trial and error gameplay, laughably unrealistic portrayals of ‘realism’, ridiculous QTE-style sequences, complete gimmicks of ‘variety’ levels and too many poor design decisions to list. Despite being released so long ago, even the first Halo and Half Life 1 are many years ahead of where both COD3 and 4 are today for story mode, and stuff like Gears of War is so advanced compared to them, I’m actually quite shocked that these campaign modes still exist in their current format. Back to the Past, rather than the Future then, Call of Duty campaign modes can offer the current player real ‘retro gaming’! Also somewhat amusingly many ‘fantasy’ games do a far better job of giving an impression of real war and combat. Despite all of this however where both COD games do score quite well is in the challenge level they provide. Albiet you often only pass a section after numerous trial-and-errors to “find the softest route” and learning the scripted enemy “chain” sequence that is the drivel that passes for enemy AI in these games, but despite this ‘cheapness’ to the experience, there’s still that lovely kick of fiero once you finally get to the next checkpoint after dying ten times – and even on standard difficulty a new player can be expected to die far more frequently than in other contemporary FPS titles. COD4 is clearly better than COD3 at least, by removing most of the ridiculous QTE-style moments and having a far more interesting storyline behind it, the current-day / near-future fantasy presumably allowing it much more scope. Also the remarkably actually good voice acting (rather than the atrocious stuff in COD3) helped carry it, and the ‘variety’ sections were also far improved. It also appears to offer far more replay value in terms of arcade mode and various Achievement-hunts on offer. Absolutely the end all, be all of war shooters, modern or WWII. Fantastic storyline, memorable characters. The most intense action you've ever played (and are likely to see for quite some time). As much as I do love MW2, Cod4 is just better all around. At least as far as the single player goes. I still prefer the MW2 MP, as I feel it is just a little more balanced. I rarely blame the game itself for a bullshit death, rather I often get enraged over corner sitting cowards, or cammpers that randomly launch javelins/rifle grenades into the air for no reason.

What an epic game, no matter how many times I have played the story mode or online mode. Controls and visuals are all spot on with an epic story mode to back up everything. This is one of the most own games for any gamer out there at the moment even with Mod Warfare 2, It is just simply the best game around bar it’s newer version. The fighting system is tops and flows perfectly onto the online modes, even with this over so annoying knife moves that can kill in one go, this game scores ten out of ten with ease.

The Call Of Duty series has always been reliable for intense, scripted action. You never had to worry about getting lost, and were always guaranteed some spectacular battle set-pieces. However, by CoD3 the whole WWII thing started getting a bit old, and the series needed an overhaul. CoD4 does this with style by bringing it into a contemporary/near future environment...and it works brilliantly. The missions are brilliant, ranging from stealth to big-scale battles to spec-ops. There are some brilliant and shocking plot twists and you really feel like the world's safety hangs in the balance. There is a good array of modern weaponry and elements like night vision goggles or thermal vision from a chopper feel incredibly realistic and immerse you deeper into the game. As with all CoD games, the single-player feels a bit short but this means that, rather than the story getting a bit tedious, you simply want MORE. The multiplayer isn't my favourite element of this game, as it chooses to be arcadey rather than strategic, with there being big chance that you'll get killed by an enemy air-raid or chopper as soon as you spawn. This game must be played; it has brought the series into the 21st century in style and is the main reason for the incredible hype surrounding Modern Warfare 2.
