Graphics: The world is imaginatively designed and looks fantastic. We have the 'screaming wall' which is a wall of amps that constantly produce feedback, we have enemies in the form of goths and glam rockers and we have spiders that spin bass strings instead of guitar strings. Genius.
Story: Its a decent yarn at the end of the day, if a bit cliche at times. There are some great laughs to be had, but they do peter out at the end. It keeps the game moving forward, thats it.
Gameplay: This has divided alot of people. The hack and slash bits are basic, but heaps of fun. There are also some RTS elements where you command an army comprised of 'headbangers' (melee units), 'roadies' (stealth units), 'thunder hoggs' (units that play soothing bass to heal your troops) and many other units, and of course you can always jump in and fight yourself with a multitude of axe attacks and guitar solos to use to smite your enemies. Sure, these RTS bits can be a bit wonky, but any game that allows you to summon a flaming zeppelin to crash on your enemies by playing a guitar solo has to be considered as genius.
Sound: The best licensed soundtrack ever. No contest. The metal on offer here is awesome (although there is a distinct lack of iron maiden) and the songs nearly always fit the story (Driving at high speed through a burning castle whilst hearing 'Through the Fire and Flames' and battling the final boss to the tune of Judas Priest's 'painkiller' were particular highlights. Voice acting is also top notch, particularly Jack Black as Eddie Riggs.
Lifespan: If you love collecting every little tidbit in games then it'll last you ages, but if you're like me and like to just play the story with occasional side missions, then It'll last you 8 hours at best, which isn't great. There is multiplayer but its just human vs human 'stage battles' (which are the RTS bits), so if you like them, great, but if you don't, then its a bit limited.
Overall: Its a great game, but not without its flaws.
