It wasnt long before a GTA game would finally emerge on the DS, especially as nintendo has lifted their "no anti family games" policy i.e. they didnt take to kindly to 18 rated games.
I expected the game to be a standard 2D game like the old GBA version, but it isnt, its proper 3D and it doesnt look half bad either. Everything is pretty smooth and the framerate holds up well, the car control is a little bit slippy but you get used to it.
If youve played any GTA game then you`ll feel at home, similar missions and set pieces, ammu-nation which is now an online shop which you place an order, and wait for the goods.
Any parents reading this wondering, is it that bad ? - Should I let little johnny play this, there is a simple answer, no you shouldnt, ignore the fact it doesnt look as realistic as GTA 4, there may be no audible F bombs, but the F word is present in pretty much every sentence on screen, the worst part of the game, is the drug dealing, its the main way you make your money, you buy and sell drugs to various dealers, this alone should be reason enough for parents to stand firm and not give in to pestering children.
The DS version is quite unique with its minigames and PDA, you use the stylus to break into cars, fill molotov cocktails, load weapons and more, its a simple but effective new feature.
The story is pretty standard, and as I said before there is no spoken audio only text, even the radio is music only, well the DS is pretty limited in memory storage.
If your not a big GTA fan then steer well clear, if you have a DS lite (trust me this looks awful on the old DS) then at least rent the game and have a look.
