Rise of the Argonauts (PS3)

Rise of the Argonauts (PS3) review

First of all, I completely disagree with the negative reviews regarding this game. Fans of greek mythology will love this one, it has a pretty good story even if you dont like the myth. Anyone that loved the film "jason and the argonauts" will also feel at home with this game. The best way for me to describe this game is, its like a hybrid, its part adventure game, and this is a minor niggle, there is lots of talking, lots of text and questions, sometimes to much, its also an RPG, but you dont level up, you offer your feats to the gods, then you choose powers and abilties to improve your character. There is also some action (button bashing style mainly) - This is also my 2nd niggle, there is not enough action to be fair, less talk & text and more action would have made this game better. Graphics wise its ok, some pretty bits but overall its just ok, voice is good but nothing oustanding, music is also pretty standard. My final words are, ignore the harsh customer reviews on here, this is well worth a rent (especially if your curious) - At least play until the first part is over, then if you havent loved it give it a miss. Both PS3 and 360 are identical in every department, so if you have both (like me) get this version you prefer the controller on.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3) review

I`m not going to waffle on to much, especially as most of what I wanted to say, has already been said in the other positive player reviews. Basically, if you like or loved tomb raider, even if you didnt, rent or buy this game, great story, sense of humour, good graphics (you really need HD), extremely fun if sometimes hard game to play (some platform / jumping bits can be tricky). You really need to play this before the sequel comes out, its now got trophies as well, very challenging they are. If you need a great mix of action, platofrm and humour then stop reading this and add this game to your list right now !!

RACE Pro (Xbox 360)

RACE Pro (Xbox 360) review

Wasnt expecting to much, especially after the average reviews from around the net. Upon loading up, the menus are fairly basic and uncluttered. I started with career and was given options of buying a contract or doing a tryout, something different for a racing game I suppose. No choice of car which was dissapointing, doesnt look like you have team members or much you can edit either. Onto the racing, graphics are pretty average to be hair, its certainly no forza or GT5 Pro. either. The worse thing for me is the no real sense of speed, there is no thrill, changing cameras didnt help, the car movement reminded me of old 8-bit days, where the road looks like its moving and the car just goes side to side, thats how it looked and felt. The AI wasnt any better, they kind of follow the same set path round the track, never crashing or anything for that matter, you can pretty much block no.2 and win the race. I dont know what it is, maybe I`m being harsh, its just not thrilling me at all, there is so many better racers out there, dirt and grid to name just 2 others. I may play a little longer but I feel like just sending it back to be honest.

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand (Xbox 360)

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand (Xbox 360) review

Let me start by saying, I cant stand rap music or hip-hop for that matter, if I`m forced then cyprus hill is the about the old "old-school" I can listen to. I honestly expected to hate this, I certainly have no interest in 50 cent, and the whole gangster rap scene does my head. So onto the game, I`m almost embarrased to admit this but this game is so much fun, if you like or can ignore the obvious OTT gangster culture then you may just enjoy it as well. Graphics are pretty good, not amazing but they do there job, you can play online co-op as well, there is no split screen which is a big dissapointment, online play can be laggy at times. The game plays similar to "the club" where scoring combos and shooting targets etc. earns you bonuses and a big score, score enough you earn a medal, these then unlock music videos, art etc. The game is an 18 and even if you removed the violence, is still unsuitable for younger gamers, the F word (among others) is used frequently, not that many parents really care these days... For achievement or trophy lovers, its pretty easy to earn them, you will need a 2nd play thru though to get all of them. Anyone after a quick action fix, especially if wanted wasnt really your thing or maybe you just found it to easy (like I did) then at least rent this new 50 cent, the original on the PS2 was terrible but dont let that put you off.

Afro Samurai (PS3)

Afro Samurai (PS3) review

a broken, glitchy game thats fun in parts, frustrating in others. Needs a patch or recall badly, audio drops out on intros and during the game, shouldnt have to put up with this. Even if the audio and bugs fixed this a poor mans "ninja gaiden" and should only be rented if you really must play it.

The Godfather II (PS3)

The Godfather II (PS3) review

After the amazing first game, EA had alot to live upto, did they suceed ? - In short, no they didnt and heres why. Graphics especially are very average for next gen, even with the 720 upscaled to 1080p it made no difference. Framerate is ok and most parts, what worst though is the game is obviously unfinished, a definite rush job, because of mafia 2 I would say, and look what happened mf2 has been dealyed to almost xmas time, bad decision to rush this game and release early. Gameplay is similar to first, but with a new don view mode and online play, which to be honest is a waste of time. Dont get me wrong, the game is fun but its extremely repetitive, maybe I`m just fed up with "GTA" clones, who knows. I purchased this and I would reccomend anyone wanting to play this, just rent it, if you love it then go for it, but at least try before you buy.

Wanted: Weapons of Fate (PS3)

Wanted: Weapons of Fate (PS3) review

If you enjoyed the film, and your looking for a no brainer action game then this is for you. Whatever console you have, this game looks good, the cutscenes for some strange reason, do not, why they didnt just use the ingame graphics for them I`ll never know. Sound is equally impressive with great sounds, cool voice-over and all the bangs and explosions you`d expect from an action game. This game may not be for everyone, and you may feel deja-vu after a few levels, but this shouldnt stop you having a blast. The game takes place after the main film, but also explores wesleys past, most levels you control wesley, but ever now and then you take control of his father. The story is pretty straightforward, ok so it wont win any oscars but its worth watching the cutscenes at least once. For achievement / trophy ho`s you can probably achieve about 40-50% of them on your first playthrough, to get them all though you need the patience of a saint as the 100% requries at least 4 or 5 playthroughs, something I would never bother with, but for the "no girlfriend / never goes out" crowd you may want to do this. There is a fair bit to unlock, new modes and characters, a new camera type, cheats as well (these disable trophies / achievements) - I had a little play on the new modes, but after a few minutes gave up and played something else. The game is also pretty short, clocking in about 6-8 hours, so if you after a short and sweet thrill ride, or maybe you just bored with everything at the moment, at least give wanted a rent you wont be dissapointed.

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Xbox 360)

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Xbox 360) review

OK, if you wondering after all the negative reviews from peeps on here, "should I even bother ?" - Well ultimately, its up to you, but if your an absoluve die-hard, and I mean die-hard obsessed DAH fan thats played 1 and 2 to death, even brought a wii to play the "big" version, then maybe.... One thing that will hit you like a wet brick in the face, omg how bad do this game look, it would be an insult to the PS2, let alone xbox and gamecube, to compare this game to anything they have, in the graphics department, the programmers were obviously so lazy, and whoever gave the green light didnt care either, this a game best not played in HD, it makes things look even worse. Gameplay its pertty much the same as before, apart from you mainly play in one big free-roam area, where before you select an individual area to visit, there a few challenges and hidden secrets if you can be bothered. After reading another review claiming racism, I couldnt find any to be honest, there is supposed to be some racism in this game, against asian people apparently, well Ive not seen anything. If you can ignore the graphics and you really need another DAH fix then give it a rent.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS) review

It wasnt long before a GTA game would finally emerge on the DS, especially as nintendo has lifted their "no anti family games" policy i.e. they didnt take to kindly to 18 rated games. I expected the game to be a standard 2D game like the old GBA version, but it isnt, its proper 3D and it doesnt look half bad either. Everything is pretty smooth and the framerate holds up well, the car control is a little bit slippy but you get used to it. If youve played any GTA game then you`ll feel at home, similar missions and set pieces, ammu-nation which is now an online shop which you place an order, and wait for the goods. Any parents reading this wondering, is it that bad ? - Should I let little johnny play this, there is a simple answer, no you shouldnt, ignore the fact it doesnt look as realistic as GTA 4, there may be no audible F bombs, but the F word is present in pretty much every sentence on screen, the worst part of the game, is the drug dealing, its the main way you make your money, you buy and sell drugs to various dealers, this alone should be reason enough for parents to stand firm and not give in to pestering children. The DS version is quite unique with its minigames and PDA, you use the stylus to break into cars, fill molotov cocktails, load weapons and more, its a simple but effective new feature. The story is pretty standard, and as I said before there is no spoken audio only text, even the radio is music only, well the DS is pretty limited in memory storage. If your not a big GTA fan then steer well clear, if you have a DS lite (trust me this looks awful on the old DS) then at least rent the game and have a look.

OneChanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad (Xbox 360)

OneChanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad (Xbox 360) review

Ok, so the game is designed for japenese business men, who buy used panties from vending machines on the underground. Its not the best looking game either, the original xbox wouldnt have struggled, saying PS2 graphics is unfair though. Sound is fairly simple with hacks, slashes, grunts and groans, when the girls are running it sound more like something sexual then being out of breath. Am i having fun, thats the main question, and for some strange, bizzare crazy reason, yes I am, ok it gets a little repetitive, but in shorts doses its a laugh, half naked babes hacking up zombies is great, tons of blood and gore as well. Not one for the "politically correct" but if your an old school gamer like me, you`ll appreciate how bad it is, and how much fun it is as well. Worth a rent if your a) male b) over 30 and c) bored
