Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard (Xbox 360)

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard (Xbox 360) review

Whilst certainly not the best game I've ever played, Eat Lead is a good laugh. It knows exactly what it is and delivers. It's nothing more than a cheesy parody and it's great at that. The bosses especially are funny as hell. If you're a well rounded gamer who's not looking for an AAA supergame, then you could do a lot worse than give this a try. Hell, it might even give you a laugh or two.

Deadly Creatures (Wii)

Deadly Creatures (Wii) review

I started this game and was quite excited - i'd read decent reviews, and it seemed like a bit of a different approach to gaming, well presented and it seemed to work well. Then I got about halfway through the game and couldn't take anymore. Flapping about with the controls didn't produce the results I was going for, and the camera would lose its mind and position itself so my enemy was out of shot. As a result, I was dying a lot. Now, I can take dying if it's through my own incompetence, but when I'm failing to get anywhere because the game is fundamentally broken, I draw the line. In fairness it's probably more down to the inacuraccy of the wiimotes more than the game itself, but whatever the reason, it gets to the point where it's just not fun anymore. If it was on another console, I might still be playing it, as controls would be buttons, which would just work, and I'd have an RS to control the camera with. As it stands, it's a good idea let down by poor controls and a dodgy camera.

Silent Hill: Homecoming (PS3)

Silent Hill: Homecoming (PS3) review

My experience with the Silent Hill series before this game has been about an hour with the original Silent Hill. So when I first played this game, I was somewhat disappointed. Turns out, it's just a very, very slow starter. I probably would have returned it had there been anything else worth playing at that point. But to have done so would have robbed me of the second half of the game, which is actually pretty good. Once the story really gets going and things start becoming more apparent, the game sucks you in. The boss fights are punishing at first, but insanely easy once you figure them out, which is a happy medium. It had a few moments that made me jump, it's really atmospheric in that regard. The controls are very sluggish though; what I wouldn't have given for a 180 degree turn button... In summary then, the first half is pretty slow, but if you can persevere, the second half is really what Resident Evil 5 could have been. Certainly recommended as a rental.

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Xbox 360)

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Xbox 360) review

This game was pretty much universally slated - but was it as bad as all that? The short answer is no. The long answer is that yes, OK, the graphics are pretty atrocious. But get past that and it's actually a blast. It's not going to change the world, but it will provide you with a weekend of fun. If you liked the previous games then give it a try. If you hated them, this won't do anything to change your mind, but there's far, far worse games out there that you could waste a rental on. I really can't see why it got so much flak. It's not brilliant, but I really quite enjoyed it once I got past how awful it looked. There's a good game underneath it all, you just need to dig a bit below the surface. 3 Stars.
