Wing Island (Wii)

Wing Island (Wii) review

Probably the most painfully embarassing thing about this game is the fact that it only has three levels... Three! I pity the people who foolishly bought this game for full price because they've most definitely been ripped off. So, there's only three levels and about 10 different missions on each. The missions tend to last a few minutes so the game will be finished within hours of first putting the disc into the Wii's slot. Normally, I might say this is the perfect sort of game for a rental but the amount of content here means that the game feels as if you've only just begun when the credits roll. It just never feels that the potential for the title was ever reached. However, the controls are for the most part incredibly easy to pick up as you simply tilt the Wiimote as you wish the plane to move. It only starts getting needlessly complicated when you have to change formation and it requires you to hold down the A button while waving the Wiimote in some direction. The problem is you'll never remember which direction is which formation. The graphics are poor at a sub-GameCube standard and the multiplayer is basic and was obviously tacked on at the last minute. Although the music with it's great fanfare and epic feel makes up for this somewhat. Still, rent this game and I guarantee that you will be disappointed. Wii has plenty of other, more exciting flight games to play though, with less of the uninspiring mission types on display here.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii)

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii) review

I can't understand why this game is so acclaimed in the gaming press as it seemed to be the bare skeleton of an actual full game more than anything else. Clearly the developers, Ubisoft, ran out of time when making the game as there's not a single bit of platforming fun anywhere to be found on the disc. So it's another round of minigames then, which would be fine if it had a brilliant multiplayer, because let's face it - these games are designed to be played with friends. Unfortunately it doesn't have a good multiplayer and can only be described as dull with players often forced to take turns and none of the madcap action from, say, the Mario Party games. However, it does have surprisingly nice graphics and it will make you laugh so it is worth a rent. One thing to be aware of though is the fact that often the controls won't work, which is easily the most frustrating feeling in the world as you often feel cheated out of winning. Also - be prepared to move your furniture around as the pointer in Rayman will only work if you're at precisely the right distance.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) review

An absolutely awe-insipring game has must be played by all Wii owners to show how a game should be made. Gorgeous graphics, moving (if unoriginal) story and controls perfected by the addition of the Wiimote make up one of the best games ever produced. A vast game that encompasses everything that you've grown to love about the Zelda franchise and so much more. The Wiimote controls add so much to the game and I cannot imagine going back to the analog stick controls for aiming Link's bow or moving his sword. Anyway, all you need to know is that this is a game you must experience now. Do it!
