Everybody's Golf World Tour (PS3)

Everybody's Golf World Tour (PS3) review

This game is very like Albatross18 which I used to play on the PC and Online. The graphics are good, and the challenges have kept me going long enough to buy the rental game I had. I had a few problems downloading the online 'lobby' and once it was finally working I found it a little tricky working out where to play, got bored, and didn't actually play online, so I can't rate that portion of the game. I'm enjoying the game still, and am beginning to find the challenges much harder as I approach what I assume is the latter stages of the game. the caddy's and crowd's comments get a little wearing after a while, especially as they applaud my "great shot" which promptly flies straight into a bunker. Nice game, Worth Buying and great value for money as a rental purchase!

DiRT 2 (PS3)

DiRT 2 (PS3) review

This was my first racing game on the PS3, and I've been very impressed with it. I was surprised to find I could win a couple of my very first races, but I am now having to work much harder to keep winning! I don't often venture online to play because I find people leaving, and the hassle of finding a game often more grief than it's worth. However with Dirt 2 I was able to easily play online, find people who seemed about my level (well apart from the freaks who play full time) and have an enjoyable online game. I've tried a couple of other racing games since, and I still play Dirt 2 more than the others. An ideal choice of a first game that others still have to live up to!

Bayonetta (PS3)

Bayonetta (PS3) review

I should start by saying I hate fighting games generally, and yet, I give this 4 stars. I rented it mainly due to the insistence of my son who wanted to play it, but also because the TV Ad caught my interest. It's fairly simple for me to control, being old and feeble, but also has enough to keep me trying longer than I usually would. The fact I laugh each time I accidentally press the button that makes the character ask, "Would you like to touch me?" (I have no idea why she says it) also keeps me playing, although I'm not sure I actually understand most of the moves, I tend to get into random button pressing and hope I win. Graphics are good, Story seems well put together, although I have now started to skip the MANY cut scenes so that I can get to the fighting again. One day I may even try playing it on something other than easy level!

Pangya Golf With Style! (Wii)

Pangya Golf With Style! (Wii) review

I've been playing this game on my PC at Albatross18.com for 18 months now, and as a free online game, its superb. I was concious that without online play it might not be the best game to play on the Wii, but I was wrong. Its got all the challenges and charm of the online game, without the hassles of finding someone to play against. It looks to have lots of long term appeal, and playability, and if you get bored swinging the club, you've got a button press game play mode too. Lots of different characters, stories, and accessories to win and unlock. I'd highly recommend this as one to try (and probably buy)

Mario Strikers Charged Football (Wii)

Mario Strikers Charged Football (Wii) review

I've been waiting for an online game for the Wii for ages, and better still, its football.... proper football not that american rubbish. The games a bit odd, 5 a side with a million and one special moves. I found the first level fairly easy to win, and am struggling to get past the second. This is about typical for me, so others will probably find it easier. The special goal moves can get a bit repetative, but are a nice distraction at times. I've not been able to play much online, but as I'm rubbish thats probably just as well. Great game, but not quite PES.

Cooking Mama (Wii)

Cooking Mama (Wii) review

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this title really. But I'm willing to give anything a try. This made it into my Wii just once, and will be returned tomorrow. I guess perhaps little kids might like it, hence the 3+ rating, but even my son who is 11 wouldn't find any interest in this beyond a few minutes play. The annoying voice and music used in game just make it worse!

Heatseeker (Wii)

Heatseeker (Wii) review

I ended up having 3 flying games at the same time recently. I only have one still at home, and thats Heatseeker. I found the control pretty easy to use, and the game was more than enough of a challenge for me, without being impossible. I tend now to skip through the cut scenes and get down to the action. I found the early missions quite easy, but realised I wasn't scoring that well on them, and so will go back and try and do better later. The levels I am on now are getting harder to complete, and remembering which weapon to attack which target is taxing my brain a little. Graphics are good and the controls are very responsive. I'm enjoying this one a lot.

Wing Island (Wii)

Wing Island (Wii) review

I'd been looking forward to this for ages having read rave reviews. I ended up being disappointed and frustrated. I realise I'm getting old and my reactions aren't what they used to be but I found this flying game really hard to play. The controls look simple enough, but in the end I found them too complicated and to be honest needlessly so, it was almost like they were trying to find a way to use the Wii controller, rather than making it intuative. The graphics and sound were good, and the story seemed interesting enough, but compared to HeatSeeker I found controlling the plane(s) much harder and meant the game became frustrating quickly. Might be worth me having another go later, but for now its one I'd avoid.

Blazing Angels - Squadrons of WWII (Wii)

Blazing Angels - Squadrons of WWII (Wii) review

This was the third of the flying games I had at once. Initially this was very easy and I got to grips with it fine. The graphics aren't as good as HeatSeeker's but the story mode seemed well written and hung together very well. I found that as I got further into the game it wasn't always clear what my objectives were, and how long I had to do them, but all in all it was an enjoyable game. It was clear that the controls were for a game ported from other consoles but modified slightly, and they seemed to have made a good job of it. It was nice to be able to fly a good selection of WW2 planes.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 (Wii)

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 (Wii) review

I only tried this for a few days before I returned it. I like golf games, but found both this and the golf on Wii sports a little annoying. I don't real play golf and so for all I know this was a very realistic simulation, but when I was swinging my club, it didn't seem to bear any realtion to how I swung, the ball went whereever it wanted. I spent a little time customising my player, but when you don't have realistic graphics (not to PC or PS3 standards) is there really any point trying to make it look real? I would far rather they had improved the game play than worry about how my character looks in the game. I also found the game very slow to play, which isn't ideal when you just want to play for a short time, you seem to spend more time waiting for cut scenes and watching other things than actually making golf shots yourself. I can't score it higher than a 2 for myself, as I didn't enjoy it at all.
