Good game, very 'Nintendo' in style even though it's not a Nintendo title. Definitely recommended if you enjoyed Pikmin, for example. Or think of it as being like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon, but with more emphasis on action, monster-fighting and exploration.
My only criticism would be that the game gets a bit repetitive and predictable after many hours of play, although there are enough new little things added as you go along to keep some variety.

In fact, in terms of mission variety, driving, gunplay and overall action - basically, the things that matter in a game like this - I much preferred it to GTAIV. It suffers from some nasty slowdown and glitches in places, but I'd still thoroughly recommend the game as a rental.
