Aliens Vs. Predator (Xbox 360) Description

In space, Rebellion can't hear you scream... the studio is too busy making you scream louder the next time around. Developer of the original 1999 action-horror classic, Aliens vs Predator, returns to PC and high-definition consoles. But this is no remake. This is re-invented, Colonial Marine versus Predator versus Alien madness. Taking control of any particular one of these species sucks you into a very different single-player story experience, where you must use various skills to overcome unique obstacles. Of course, the stories of the three species will cross over, allowing for some rather manic showdowns. The story itself follows the premise of the original film – an ancient pyramid is discovered on planet BG-386 containing a dark secret, while a race of warriors arrive intent on keeping the structure sealed at all costs. Then all hell breaks loose. Each species has its own abilities, weaknesses and strengths – the Colonial Marine isn't as agile or well-armoured as its enemies, but it makes up for this in raw fire-power and map scanning technology. Predators have the benefit of stealth and melee attacks, but can be scuppered by long-range assaults and co-ordinated ambushes. Aliens are the fastest of the three, and can run along walls and kill their enemies before they've even noticed what's happened, but it comes at the cost of any real health or power. Online, the fight is something unique in a first person shooter in that it's not all about the weaponry and agility you have, but how you use one species' abilities to overcome another's weakness. Three-way species battles allow for Aliens, Predators and Marines to fight a battle of brains and brawn to become the deadliest in the universe.

Ugh... Another promising game ruined. The original game on the PC was one of my favourites and I still occasinally dig it out, however this game is nothing but a chore. Everything about it is entirely sub par. Graphics, voice acting, gamplay, the feel of the guns, the online modes, the story lines, Everything! The marines story arch is poor. Maybe the worst FPS game I have ever played. The predator started well and got my hopes up, however that dropped even lower than the marines. I stopped playing before the aliens story to go online and hopefully regain some joy. That didnt end well. Lag, poor controls and rubbish level design made me turn off the game and send it back. Maybe the alien part was good, but I had had enough.

Aliens Vs Predator is brought to you by Rebellion games, the same studio behind the critically acclaimed game of the same name released in 1999 on PC. Rebellion has been letting standards slip lately but they have assured us that this is not the case with Aliens vs. Predator. As is the trend these days, Aliens Vs Predator is something of a reboot of the series. Rather than follow on from Monolith’s Aliens Vs Predator 2 on PC, this game starts fresh. That isn’t an issue as it basically mirrors the original and its sequel so closely anyway. You’ll play through three separate campaigns as each of the three distinctive species in a loosely connected plot; a full multiplayer suite rounds things out. Unsurprisingly the Marine campaign is where the bulk of the single player is to be found. You play as the ‘rookie’, a cliché that like the rest of the plot is done to death and fails to provide any real motivation for what you’re doing. I would ask why rookies keep getting sent on high priority missions if I thought someone had an honest answer. Anyway, one supporting AI character gives some reason to see how the plot turns out but beyond that you’ll guess everything before it happens. The game goes for scares during a good portion of the Marine campaign and they can work the first time couple of times. By the tenth time the same technique is used it starts to wear thin and undermines the very horror aspect the games trying to portray. Certain aspects feel incredibly dated; you can’t crouch and you can’t aim down the sights – omissions like this are almost unforgivable in this day and age of shooters. The Marine campaign clocks in at around 6-7 hours. The Predator campaign is played as a cross between stealth and first person beat ‘em up. The stealth works relatively well but largely only because you can turn almost invisible and the enemy AI is pretty dumb at the best of times. Sneaking up behind an enemy or stunning them will allow a brutal CQC kill and I don’t use the word lightly. When you can’t get close enough you’ll have the Predator iconic weapons at your disposal (some will be collected later on). Aliens Vs Predator pushes its 18 certificate far; definitely not for the squeamish. The Predator campaign clocks in at around 3-4 hours. The Alien campaign plays like Predator campaign minus the weapons; stalking the shadows is key. Fortunately your ability to walk on walls, ceilings and climb through vents will give you plenty of opportunity to get round your prey; similar to the Predator campaign, brutal CQC kills are available if you get close enough. Arguably the weakest of the three campaigns, clocking in at only 2-3 hours and likely to give the majority of players motion sickness due to all the wall running. The graphics are hit and miss. The character models look pretty good and the movement of the aliens and predators are captured very closely from their silver screen counterparts. Environments are often dark and gloomy and you’re equipped with a torch that provides about as much light as a firefly (flares are also available). Gun models don’t look so good and it’s easy to imagine that the dark rooms are to give a sense of dread and hide the poor texture work. The sound is excellent but I’m unsure if this compliment should go to Rebellion or James Cameron as the game obviously used his movie as a template. Multiplayer offers everything from multi species death match to survival mode (infection). It’s a fairly standard affair and offers nothing spectacular. Issues with the single player are carried over here (such as no ADS) which hurts the overall package. Unbalance is also an issue, the Predator class outmatches the other two species and you’ll be pressed to find a match that isn’t full of Predators – that’s if you can get a match; at time of writing matchmaking is very slow. As stated the original game came out in 1999 and this is basically it again with a graphical overhaul – and those graphics are already dated by today’s standard. Despite all the issues mentioned, this game is clearly a love letter to fans of the movies and will likely be enjoyed by those fans who play shooters. Simply put; if you’ve loved the movies then this game is worth a rental at least. If you’re just looking for a shooter, you can do better than Aliens Vs Predator.

Alien vs Predator, an FPS game we've all been dreading and looking foward for. Well, it's finally here, and what a surprise of a game. For a movie game, I wasn't expecting much, but I have to say that this game really impressed me. For all of you that have read my reviews before, this review will hopefully be better. I've made it a bit longer, more concise and easier to find what you're looking for. If you have any comments or criticism, please leave a comment. If you choose to give me a negative rating, please explain why in a comment so that I can better my reviews in the future. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy. The Graphics are spot on. Nothing too crazy, but it represents the series well. All the little details you'd expect are all there. The predator arm band to his helmet are all done perfectly. The alien Queen is gorgeous and all the marines are, well, FPS marines. The game includes special skins that unlock as you level up, a cool edition, but I wish there was more for your effort. Sound is nothing amazing, serves its purpose well, but nothing out of the ordinary. Only thing worth mentioning is the funny sounds during the main menu, they'll make you think you're talking to someone who just put their mic in. Can mess with you a bit and kinda cool. The Controls are crisp in the aspect of camera and character movement. My biggest beef with the controls is that they differ from character to character in respects to sensitivity. Alien has the most sensitive controls (able to run at speeds that just aren't right for a FPS), followed by predators and then finally marines. When playing the alien, one of the biggest flaw in the game becomes apparent. The camera angle for the alien is at the level that the alien would be at running at. That, added with the fact that the alien runs on walls and ceilings, you end up playing as if you are playing Prey at ankle level. the player tends to get disoriented quite quickly, although the reticule in the center helps to reorient yourself. There is also some issue with the grab feature of the alien and predator. In multiplayer modes it gets hard to run up and grab someone. You'll often run right by them and not grab them, leaving your back turned and vulnerable to counter-attack. Single Player is split into 3 seperate campaigns. One for each character, alien, predator and marine. The campaigns are fairly short and a good challenge. Ultimately, after playing single player, Sega seems to want to focus on the multiplayer of this game. Most of the achievements for single player are fairly straight foward and easy, should be some quick points for the chievo hunters out there, but beware, the Nightmare mode shouldn't be taken lightly. The Multiplayer aspect of the game is very surprising. Smooth and fairly lag free, other than a few glitches here and there, it is a very fluid play online. Most issues with play can, and probably will be, corrected with patch work later. The weaponary is a little off-balance, favoring the predator online. There are 7 multiplayer modes featuring everything from standard Deathmatch to a specie specific Deathmatch. There is also a Survivor co-op mode as well, although you can only use marines in that mode. The multiplayer mode progresses using an experience/level system, unlocking new skins for use in multiplayer as you progress. A little lacking, I think. There a lot of weapons for both the predator and the marines to use that could have been split up for rewards in multiplayer, although the alien would be lacking in that scenario. The community on AVP is just not there at this point. Matchmaking can take upwards of 5-10 minutes to Quick Match in Ranked Matches and I still have yet to get a group together for Player Matches. Hopefully that will change once the game has been out for a while, because this game is very fun to play online. Overall the game is definitely worth a play through. The single player is challenging and fun and the multiplayer, if it picks up and keeps a descent online following, keeps the game with a high replay value. As for the price, well, you might want to wait for a price drop or just rent this one. Hopefully we'll see a sequel, because this game set a good foundation for a new series of FPS games. I give AVP a 4 out of 5 stars. PROS You get to play as Xenomorphs! Full range of classic weapons from the movies. Multiplayer really is a lot of fun. CONS Playing as Xenomorphs may make you motion sick. Some control issues with finishing moves in multiplayer. Predator is way too strong in multiplayer

The best Aliens/Predator game ever made. Three campaigns (predator being the most fun) and a lot of multiplayer modes, make this a great game. The whole package is beautifully realised and true to the original source materials. This is more a game for fans of the movie Aliens, and the movie Predator, as oppose to those awful movies AVP 1&2. The only gripe is ranked matches can take ages to connect as the matchmaking system is poor.

AVP was a huge dissapointment to me, but I already knew it wasen't going to be up to much ever since rebellion stopped caring about the quality of their games (rogue warrior, shellshock 2) so knowing that monolith wasen't part of the development of this game like the old ones it was obvious this was going to suck. Marine story is a standard fps with little to recommend all you basically do is run to a door and hack it over and over for the tiny 3 hours it took me to get past it and I plan on never playing it again unlike the first two games that did more for gaming so many years ago. Something you notice is just how boring the graphics are, apparently they are normal mapped and all those cool things but when you look at the game it just looks flat and bland the only thing going for it is the lightning effects which basically look just like this in every other fps as standard plus the framerate just does not hold up well at all stuttering at the most awkward of times when your trying to aim. The predator campaign was the best out of the three but it lasted about an hour, you played an overpowered predator and killed everything effortlessly it's just the same as the marines but instead of hacking you just destroy the power boxes, theres some jumping from high ground to high ground but the controls are so damn stupid you'll be bored. Alien campaign was terrible and pointless it was thrown together at the last minute, this is exactly the same as the other campaigns but all you do is destroy control panels, I was amazed that this is all they could think of other than the fact you can climb the walls just like the ancient pc games you do this get nausea and headaches, kill everyone and just run past everything bored the worst thing is that you just play through the same campaigns again but going another way or doing something slightly different. The best thing about this game overall is the sound and multiplayer the sound stays suprisingly close to the movies all guns sound authentic. The multiplayer was hyped up so much it seemed like a brilliant idea going marine vs predator vs alien but it's not really it just feels really unbalanced and the maps are pretty big making it boring looking for each another not only that joining a game is made terrible due to the awful game search it seems quite dead in ranked matches already plus the survival mode is tragic with only 2 maps. This game is definetly not going to grab your attention from the online games your playing right now the game is only worth a rental if you wish to play through really short stories about breaking control panels/boxes. Come on rebellion do you even play the games you make?
