I dont see what everyone's problem with this game was? People say the battle system was boring, un usable ... bla bla bla There is absolutely nothing wrong with this game, and it seems the people who cant play this game are people who are used to "rpg's" such as fable, mass effect, fallout etc... This is a Jrpg people (japanese rpg) the original and best, like final fantasy etc. Star ocean is quite a well known series by now, this game pre dates the others. You play as a range of charecters depending on your tastes. The main charecter however is a man named Edge Maverick, and you play as him as huminity's quest for a new planet to colonize, but with a few twists and turns on the way. Overall i very enjoyed this game, it is a real time game, and not turn based. If you have played jrpg's for a while, you sjhould be used to long cut scenes, but i think every second was needed as the story builds up... Over all a very enjoyable game, IF you are into these kind of games, if not, you might find this game a bit drawn out, and if you are looking into getting into the jrpg genre, for a first time gamer, i might recommend Lost oddesy. For the turn based side of it, or Tales of vesperia, both very enjoyable. Overall i give this 10/10 Graphics top notch. Sound is alright, the lack of music, is kinda annoying, and the vioces dont match the charecters, but thats what happens when we get japanese ported games right? playability again 10/10 the dungeons can sometimes take a while, i think for the last one it took me 4 hours, plus 5 or 6 boss fights at the end. A real challenge at the end of a well done game.

I expected so much better from this game. Only one action button, a defence system that enemies have no problems getting through, and fight scenes that would look dated on a PS2/original X box. Unfortunately the game play has to take second place to the cut scenes, if 30+ minutes of cut scenes after every 15 minutes of game play sounds good, then this is the game for you. If not don't waste your time with this, have another go at Oblivion/Fable 2/Fallout 3 etc. there are loads of good RPG's out there. but this isn't one of them.

I'm extremely dissapointed with this game, from other reviewers and critics they talk about a lot of good things about this game. Sadly I fail to see any of those things in this game. The battle system is slow and very boring, there is only one attack button(there are more but the others drain your mp extremely quickly), no way to defend yourself(there is one way although the enimies seem to get through it) and also it is very hard to find healing items and use them in battle. Dungeons and levels seem to go on forever, once they end an uneeded 20-30 minute cutscene will comence followed by a boss fight, all with no save point, this will quickly irratate easily-angered gamers. Also the voice acting dosen't really suit the anime-style charecters very well, for example the main charecter Edge Maverick, he's voice just does not seem to suit him at all, it's someting I just could not get used to in a JRPG like this. The story is quite impressive and the visuals are fantastic, but visuals alone do not make for a great game. The charecter design is very detailed, although I personally think that the main charecter, Edge Maverick could be mistaken for a girl. The clothes that the charecters wear really look messed up and don't seem o suit the epic JRPG franchise could of looked much better. The cutscenes are also drawn out too long, theres no need for each cutscene to waste 20-30 mins and only a few key moments be seen, a lot of it was very unneeded. I think that this is so far one of the worst games made by Square Enix, and a lot of the content was either messed up or uneeded, for an alternative JRPG for the Xbox 360 I recommend Infinite Undiscovery (absolutely amazing game compared to Star Ocean:TLH) or Lost Odyssey(a very good classic-feeling JRPG game). Overall this game highly irratated me with its clunky, impossible and downright boring battle system, and very drawn out cutscenes, so I give Star Ocean: The Last Hope a 2/5. I very highly recommend Infinite Undiscovery as an alternative to this.
