Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360) Description

Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to 2007s insanely successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which took the classic World War II first person shooting series and adapted it to modern day situations. With the ever-present threat in many people's minds being terrorism, developer Infinity Ward has a lot of material with which to create some gripping fictional shorelines. Set several years after the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you play as Sgt. Gary "Roach" Sanderson, taking orders from the hero of the last game, "Soap" MacTavish. MacTavish is now a captain and directs your missions as a coalition of CIA, Delta Force, Rangers, and British SAS soldiers travelling across locations in Russia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Brazil. The immediate threat is the Russian Ultranationalist organisation, who have returned to prominence after a leadership takeover by one Vladimir Makarov. Your mission is to counter the strengthening threat emanating from the Ultranationalists. Multiplayer combat will heavily feature in Modern Warfare 2, with the satisfying online death matches returning with new weapons, equipment and rewards that can be earned by collecting experience points. A brand new mode called Special Ops allows for multiplayer co-operative action, drafting players into unique missions that are similar to those found in the single player campaign.

I was looking forward to playing this game having played the first as my first game for the 360. The game play is sharp and sensitive and the look is fantastic. The only problem is the length. The first modern warfare was short and this game is even shorter with limited replay value. I was bored by the end second time around. Still, disspite that, the action is fantastic and very viscoral. The music score elevates some of the more intense scenes, offering an emotional involvement I've rarely found in games. I would definitely recommend it but as a renter rather than a buyer.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare was an impresive game that got me hooked on it despite the short campaign. Let's see how Modern Warfare 2 compares. Before starting the online multiplayer I completed the campaign. It is an interesting and fun campaign with great levels, environments and a fantastic (albeit slightly far fetched) campaign. The graphics are noticiably sharper and better. The only thing I dislike about the general gameplay is the new damage meter which fills the screen with blood which can be frustrating in moments of intense combat. I then went into the multiplayer mode. At first glance I really loved it, but soon I found it frustrating. I think it is too easy with so many killstreak bonuses. Airdrop can give you Harriers and Pavelows after only 4 kills. The maps are quite fun and competitive but I actually prefered COD4's. New weapons are fun but I frequently find myself using the M4A1 from the previous games. To be honest I got a little bit sick and tired of the gameplay after the thrill of new features wore out and after 3 weeks I put COD4 back into the Xbox and started playing that instead. The reason I give it 4 is because I can see the hard work that has gone into it. The reason it lost a star is because it just isn't as good a game as COD4. Shame really.

this game is very over rated the story line is good graphics are good the spec ops game mode is great fun to play with a friend so single player is good fun. But then u click on multiplayer and then the game is rubbish very unrealistic the online maps are terrible the only good thing is the list of guns to choose from. The online game play is terrible gets boring so quickly. do not buy but don t avoid RENT IT for the single player

Modern Warfare 2 is one the most hyped-up games of recent times; like GTA IV, it's one of those few games that can be called a 'phenomenon' rather than just a game. But phenomenons aren't always the best games. Like GTA IV, this game relies on sticking to the formula of it's predecessor, while making a few stylistic changes. The graphics aren't much of an improvement on CoD4, but the missions are more fast-paced, scripted and intense than in 4, and that really is saying something. The plot also feels more personal, with some old characters returning and several truly shocking twists that draw you into the game. The multiplayer is also a major improvement; there are loads of challenges so you can improve your weapons and get various perks for your character. It also seems fairer, with you no longer getting blown up the second you spawn. The level design is also great, and you really have to make use of the foliage, cracks and crevices if you want to avoid getting killed - forget about going on big shooting rampages, it pays to be careful here. Also, the Spec Ops missions add another layer to the multiplayer; there is a great variety of missions that you can unlock (from stealth to stand-offs) and play through in split-screen or online. As usual, the single-player is too short but the Spec ops and multiplayer really extend the game's longevity. While I found the single-player disappointingly short and similar to CoD4, the game has really improved in the multiplayer aspects to make it one of the best multiplayer experiences money can buy (though the RRP of £54.99 is a bit offensive). Great FPS action.
