Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (Xbox 360) Description

Promising to take you as close to war as you’ll ever want to get, the sequel to the highly popular Operation Flashpoint sees you as a U.S. military unit defending the fictional island of Skira from invading Chinese forces. The island, located North of Japan in all its sandbox glory, is a historical mark of contention between Chinese, Japanese and Russian forces and war is imminent, with the USSR requiring your assistance. In development for many years, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising includes great detail in both the actions of your men and how the environment works to your advantage. Extensive motion capture has resulted in the weight of real weapons affecting your player movement, and realistic operation of military vehicles. Unlike many shooting games, you’re required to watch for movement as your enemy is not likely to make themselves noticeable to you. A special ‘Hardcore’ mode removes most of the HUD, forcing you to remember just how full your weapons clip really is before engaging in a firefight. There are many online modes and multiplayer activities in the game too, including the obligatory co-operative campaign and deathmatches, along with special covert operations that has players infiltrating enemy lines and clearing certain objectives.

i was really disapointed with this game, i put it in my xbox for about 20 mins then posted it back, the graphics are !!!!!!!!!crap!!!!!!!!! the aiming is far from smooth, it has the potential to be amzing the fact you choose your tasks in any order you want by just driving there is good, but you cant spin the camera around the car to see whats going on, i think the main thing for me for was the graphics u could hardly see enemys from a distance they where just blobs, so im gutted if it wernt for the graphics and i few other tiny details this could have been the next big thing.

I was one of the few people who was as excited by this as I was by Modern Warfare 2 in the build-up to its release. While MW2 was the Hollywood blockbuster game, Flashpoint 2 was to be the ultra-realistic tactical shooter that demands patience, skill and tactics. My initial impressions upon being dropped down onto the island where all the action takes place is that this is brilliant; you have a choice of what order to tackle your objectives in and though it takes a while to get to any of them without transport (which you can steal), this gives you options about how to approach the objectives. Be warned that this game is relentless; checkpoints are few and far between, it takes only a few shots to die and you can bleed to death if you don't see to your wounds. The single-player is a little bleak, especially since there's no reason you'd want to play it when you have the option of doing the exact same missions but with a team online. This is a credit to the game's great online options, but the single-player should be a fun thing in it's own right, which it isn't mainly because of dodgy team AI and a slightly awkward radial menu through which to issue commands to your team. Don't expect the guns, explosions and SFX of Modern Warfare 2; this game is much more like REAL modern warfare and is a relentless but satisfying game experience. If you manage to convince a couple of your friends to buy it then you could be in for one of the most intense and challenging co-op experiences available – but if you're looking for an engrossing single-player game then look elsewhere.

First of all, this is not a 'run and gun' game like the Call of Duty series. It's a realistic sim. The graphics aren't amazing and gameplay is slow - but not in a bad way. The story is mediocre and some of the voice-overs can sometimes lag or glitch and sound rather strange. Overall, it's not a game which kept me personally hooked as it was a bit too slow paced, but for someone that wants a realistic shooter and doesn't mind about dodgy voice acting and bugs, then this is almost definatley worth a rent.

The graphics on this game are the first thing you notice that aren't all that good. The second thing you notice is that you can't move the camera angle around when you are in a land based vechicle. The game and story are all quite passable but you have by the fact that the game dosen't look that great to start with, the best thing is to give it an hour or so and you won't care what the grapchics look like. You definetly have to plan your missions alot more carefully when playing and you should always choose a gun with a scope otherwise you will find it hard to find the enemy. Overall these game has a lot of potential but you have to give a little to get a lot out , I would rate as a slightly better than average fps tactical shooter.

Flashpoint has proved itself almost inevitably to be a true War Sim. From experience - for me, I've never played anything quite as realistic as this one. Definitely worth pulling out if you want to get down and dirty in the mood (Which you do alot!). The graphics of the game are of a high level and are very fluid. There's plenty of action. Focus on vehicles has been moved more so to infantry although you do get tot ake part in some rather fun and fast vehicle missions. The game fails slightly in its Multiplayer, it's very much stop and start and is certainly not the game's selling point. If you're looking for a multiplayer based shooter then this isn't the one. A bit of advice I'd give to anyone thinking of getting this - If you like a challenge, this game is for you! If you want to ski your way to the end no problems then you had better be extremely good at it or just turn away now. The game is difficult, even on the easiest setting.
