F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (PS3) Description

The first F.E.A.R. game, released back in 2005, delivered oodles of horror and action in equal proportion, with tight, close-quartered action and a dark, suspenseful atmosphere. So what do you do for a sequel? More horror, more action! F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin places gamers behind the gun of Michael Becket, a member of a special forces unit caught in the midst of some pretty strange and catastrophic goings-on. There are hordes of clone soldiers, supernatural nasties and - at the centre of it all - there's Alma, the creepy girl from the first game with some pretty potent paranormal powers. So, the ante has been upped in terms of the chaos produced by the uber-powerful (and more than a little frightening) Alma, so what have the good guys got to deal with it? Mech suits, for one. The pitch of the action has been taken up a notch with the addition of mechanised combat, something long-time fans of developer Monolith might be familiar with thanks to 1998's Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. The action has also been made that bit more frantic with more open-air combat than the first game, lending the sequel a more frenetic pace. The slow-motion feature of the first game makes a reappearance, but you'll have to think faster, too, since the enemy AI has been improved to make it more tactical. As with any good shooter, multi-player action is present and accounted for, with players able to do battle with or against their mates. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-focused horror title, this is your spooky little girl.

This was is very enjoyable. Can get quite scary in some parts where Alma starts to haunt you and also has some great action sequences with the clone soldiers. You also get to drive a great big armour machine which is great. I won't give away the ending but its very strange.

After playing Fear 1 and not really being that blown away but it I can honestly say I didnt hold out much hope for this title either. But after Playing the demo on PSN and being crushed by a falling schoolbus (Long Story!) I thought Id rent the game for a true test of it. A pretty standard and easy control set up that you get with most shooters nowadays means its easy to get to grips with even if like me shooters aint your main line of games. The story is very wel written and played out for you in this game and that alone I feel hooks you to playing more. Its also well noted that its scary but its not because its just hurling blood everywhere and surprising you with attacks out of the blue, it works hard on building suspence like you would see in any horror film, ghostly images walk past you or in front of you only to vanish and re-appear in your face, Voices talk to you in long scary warbles and cut scenes blend in like a memory flashback from hell. Alma (the games main scarepoint) freaks me out anyway, little ravenhaired girls in dresses with red eye are not my cup of tea! (Hence Bioshock also worries me) Setting your TV darkness is important for the game and the game even start off by helping you set it, for a truly "jumping out the dark at you" expierience. Didnt think I would like this as much as I did but it really does build the story well and costs you a few pairs of pants and for £14 pre played price (ps3) its more than worth it to add to your collection

Boring and repetitive, the supernatural elements are good, but you have to shoot stupid soldiers to see them

What a great game this is! F.E.A.R. 2 has everything that you could want from a top class shooter. Good graphics? Check. Great story? Check. Lots of gore? Check. Fun gameplay? Check. You get the picture... I wont spoil the story for you as I loved the way it unfolded and if anyone could predict the ending then you need to take Mystic Megs job! However there are one or two niggles with the game. The difficulty has been toned down and the Alma stuff is overused, but they do not detract from the amazing experiance that this game gives you. To top this off the MP is fun, however there are only 6 maps, but makes up for this with the fact that they are all well designed. So far the best game of 2009.

This game is as good, if not better than the first. The graphics are amazing and are really done justice with the scenes chosen by the developers etc. Some scenes are beautifully done and very clever indeed, one such scene being the cinema sequence which can be seen on the demo as well as in the full game. Fear 2 is both enjoyable and scary if played properly and the multilpayer is now quite fluid too. I really enjoyed this game and hope there will be a third!
