Shellshock 2: Blood Trails (PS3) Description

"War! Urgh! Good Gaw! What is it good faw!?" You know how the rest goes. While most war games of a video variety tend to focus on World War II or the high-pitched and even higher velocity battles - fictional or not - of the modern era, the Shellshock series has gone where few others have dared - Vietnam. The story goes along the lines of following a plane, carrying a top secret consignment dubbed 'Whiteknight' which has crashed in the Vietnamese jungle. A bunch of special ops soldiers were sent in, but systematically disappeared. A month later, one of them turns up alive but completely bonkers, and who wouldn't be alarmed by that? In time-honoured fashion, it's time to reach for your firearm and shoot stuff. Boy, do you shoot stuff! Because, if being at war wasn't bad enough, whatever made the survivor deranged has followed them out, and it won't just be the guys you were shooting at yesterday that you have to defend yourself against - it will be the victims of Whiteknight, too. Blasting away at the enemy in true first-person shooter style, you might start to feel this is more like a horror movie than a video game, and that's why Shellshock 2: Blood Trails is so compelling.

I was pleasantly suprised with Shellshock 2. I had thought it would be a mediocre fps with poor controls and bad graphics. However, what I got was a standard fps game, with hard to spot enemies, crafty traps and the infected from 28 days later. The "infected" in this game are genuinely worrying to come across, on their own they're not too bad, but when you're confronted with a load of them it gets hairy. They look just like the villains from 28 days later and either walk slowly looking for their prey or run full pelt at you, sometimes out of nowhere. One level has you being stalked by a powerful infected and it had me on the edge of my seat at points. There are quick time events in this game if you accidently spring a trap or sometimes in hand to hand combat. They don't detract from the game and give it a cinematic quality The game has a similar system to Call of Duty, if you take damage you just have to hide somewhere and wait to heal back up before going back out there. You have three weapon slots and two grenade slots, you can carry a pistol, a knife and either a rifle, shotgun, rocket launcher or an assault rifle, and the grenades are either frag or flares. There is no multiplayer in this game, which means they have focused on the main story campaign, which is never a bad thing. The story itself, I found quite interesting, I'm not a huge fan of Vietnaam games, but chuck some zombies in and I'll give it a whirl. There are a lot worse FPS games out there (like Legendary and Hour of victory) the main problem for this game for me is that the VC's are very hard to spot in the jungle levels which is a good thing realisticly but doesn't help you game terms. Shellshock 2 doesn't bring anything new to the already crowded table of FPS games, but it does bring a decent enough game that will take you a good few hours to complete and the achievements aren't too hard either.

Yes "Wotthehellshock 2" is a really poor game. The graphic are poor and the game play is frustrating. You can't even go anywhere without being totally surrounded and need 30+ bullets to despatch just one of them. This makes the weapons feel weak and the story was that exciting I couldn't be bothered finishing it.
