Flight sim games have always been a guilty pleasure of mine.... I can see how people don't get them, they're really quite boring when you boil it down to it's bare bones, but for me, I just get this real thrill from flying through a digital sky. Tom Clancy lets you enjoy that experience really rather well. As it's one of very few games in this genre to be on HD platforms, you get a real obvious visual upgrade if the last flight sim game you played was an old PS2 Ace Combat game. Now, there is Ace Combat 6 available, and it is a much better game than HAWX, but I think that they've been released suitably far enough apart for them both to have a place and sell well. Back to HAWX though - the visuals are really rather lovely. The plane models are nicely detailed, locales are crisp looking and varied, so you're not subjected to the same sea-sky-ground blahness you can get from some of these games. The levels constantly change and throw new locales at you, so you do get to visit all sorts of little corners of the globe. It keeps it interesting for sure. The actual plane controls are great and for the most part what you expect, with the exception of in-air braking which I found looked rather unrealistic compared to Ace Combat, but it was OK. The 3rd person view available for this game though is one of the things that was really touted as the big feature, and personally, I didn't like it. I just couldn't get used to it at all, and much preferred sticking to the traditional in-cockpit or out behind the aircraft views. The sound effects and background music are all very noise, with suitably heavy explosions and ting-ting ricochet of bullets - just what you would expect. All in all, HAWX is a great game if you're a flight sim enthusiast. I'd certainly give it a place in my collection.

A short needless game which is easy and dire. Ace Combat does it better in everyway. Too much style over substance and what is the worst part is that they could have been trying to make a new GRAW (the only series UBI seem to be getting right these days) I could list everything that is wrong with this game, but all I have to do is say everything. Think of anything (apart from the graphics, there not too bad) and it will be terrible. There is also an online bit of the game where it you you and several other Human players playing co op. This sounds great, but in reality, it makes an already easy game almost pointless. How did this game get past the minds who thought it would be a good idea. They need to be fired. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

good game, though the single player is short it does teach you well how to take on real world players. One thing though there is no one on the ranked online versus matches. So unless you are lucky enough to into me, lol, you wont get a game unless you go on friendly's. The tree's are a bit pixel led but otherwise the graphics are good. Overall well worth renting if you just want a taste but much better off when bought for yourself.

This is a beautifully designed game. Everything from the controls to the scenery and the planes you fly has been designed and implimented in a very sucessful way. This game is like Ace Combat on a whole new level. The detail in the cities below are amazing and the graphics are very impressive if you bear in mind the size of each map. The new features to this game compared with ace combat are the computer assisted interception system which can be activated in order to give the pilot bearings and directions in order to better intercept a given target. This makes the game a lot less messy and gives you a better feeling of professionalism while in combat. The dog fight camera is also awesome! Adding a whole new aspect to the game. It also has a very promising multiplayer and co-op variant which will add lifespan to the game. All in all a solid game with some cool tricks up its sleeve.

this is one short game... raced through it on hard in less than 6 hours... i kid you not. enjoyable but lacking the challenge of the ace combat series.. Hawx was a minor distraction of an evening. Multiplayer gives the product legs but after another night of drift left then shoot.. drift right, shoot, the tedium set in... Average thee name be Tom. Which is a shame cause everything else with the Clancy name in my opinion has been top notch... or at least up until endwar and now this was.
