Halo Wars (Xbox 360) Description

Master Chief's all about being the big hero in the Halo universe. Sure, he has guys like the Arbiter and Cortana to help him along, but there's no denying that within the first person shooter context of the Halo trilogy, he's the star of the show. Giving a different perspective on the Halo universe is Halo Wars, a real time strategy game from Ensemble Studios, the developer behind the best-selling Age of Empires series. Taking the action away from the frenetic first-person action of the Halo trilogy, Halo Wars puts players in charge of entire units. The game takes place 20 years before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, dropping players on a planet in the Epsilon Indi solar system on a planet called Harvest. A mysterious relic has turned up there, one that the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) wants and that the Covenant will go to any lengths to stop them from acquiring. The game has been specifically developed for the Xbox 360 controller, and controlling your troops is a straightforward matter of using the face buttons to select and issue commands, cancel orders and deploy special attacks. As well as its primary function, each unit has a more powerful special attack that can be used after a period of charging. Warthogs can ram enemies, for example, while the Scorpion can unleash heavy cannon fire and UNSC soldiers can lob grenades. Those familiar with the Halo mythos will find classic Halo equipment, while there are new additions to give them something different with which to eviscerate their foes. Because war isn't a solitary affair, Halo Wars makes use of Xbox Live to offer co-op play right through the single-player campaign. If Ensemble Studios has its way, Halo Wars will get the Halo faithful enjoying the RTS genre and RTS fans making their first entry into the Halo universe!

The Halo Franchise seems to go from strength to strength, sadly this is not the best Halo game I have played and even with the collectors edtion with the patch I found myself wanting more. It comes across as a weaker command and conquer game that fall short of hitting the CC mark. But with that said it still has some appeal, if like me you are a massive Halo fan then this is a must to play. But if you are a CC fan looking for something different I doubt you will have little fun with this game, all in all I give it a 3 well worth the rent but save your money for the other Halo games.

Halo wars is an RTS addition to the absolute wonderwork that is the halo saga and storyline. Set about 20 years before the shenanigans of master chief in Halo 1, you follow the story of the commander, scientist and lieutenant aboard a UNSC ship, the Spirit of Fire. Without spoiling the plot, the game provides an interesting new perspective and prequel to the Halo story, alongside the thoughtful and insightful 'halo timeline' inserted by Bungie make this a definite rent for any Halo fan. The gameplay works much like the other RTS games on the xbox 360, the graphics being simple but satisfying and the game never lags. The campaign is fun, with interesting and varying missions, eg the incomplete scarab mission (you'll understand when you rent it), that keep the story moving. However, it is not long or challenging enough and there is little motive left to play through again to earn additional achievements. Onto the multiplayer. I am an avid fan of online RTS's, my gamer library including c&c 3 and LOTR: BFME. If you share my taste, you will certainly enjoy the online aspect of Halo Wars, the multiplayer being in my eyes the main reason for playing the game. However, for RTS newbs the first few games online WILL NOT be enjoyable. You will experience severe taunting, massive frustration, broken controllers and insight into whether you love or hate RTS games. The combat triangle of units keep the multiplayer balanced as 3v3 matches go on easily for a couple of hours, though you will occasionally find yourself rushed by a power gamer looking to rank up asap. Worth a rent for any Halo fan, and perhaps even a purchase for an RTS fan, Halo Wars is very definitely a good game. However, if you are not looking for an expansion to the Halo story or do not enjoy RTS games, there is little else to look forward to in Halo Wars. 3/5

Halo Wars is a decent game with good gaphics. The achievements are sraight forward, the game has 14 missions (each with 1 black box and 1 skull). The skulls are easy to find because you do the optinal objective to kill a certain amount of kills, when you complete the mini map will flash where the skull is at. The black boxes are on the map already you just have to find them. To get the skulls and black boxes I recomend using a hornet(there quick and easy to use).

I started playing this game and, asides the Halo overlay, thought to myself, now where have i seen this before? It was only about three missions in before it hit me. This is a direct rip of starcraft! The more i played it, the more obvious it became. That aside, it is engaging, can be very challenging and is a great waste of time until, suddenly, you are at the last mission....which when you figure it out is relatively straightforward. Overall a good game, but it is not really original and you are left at the end thinking, is that it?

Halo wars is a decent RTS taking place in the Halo universe. Well setout on the 360's controller. it doesn't take long to start throwing out units and killing the covenant.all your favourite units from the halo games are here from the classic warthog to the banshees and ghosts of the covenant. the campaign mode is good and will fill a good few hours to complete all missions before heading back to the harder difficulties.one of the better RTS games on the xbox 360
